re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi All and Happy New Year..I am still playing around with my sc run for March / April from LV or LAX...can anyone confirm the sc's earned when going to Aruba/Antigua/ in Business from say Dallas, Miami or CLT...I think it might be 60 SC's but cannot bring up on the Qantas calculator - I can see SJU earn from those hubs but not others in the Caribbean and not sure where else to look. If we end going back to SJU would love some ideas on where else to visit...did the old town, and the castle last time. Thanks in advance

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

When I flew from Miami to Aruba last year in J as no F, the SCs were 60 each way.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

MIA-ANU is 1330 miles and MIA-AUA is 1137 so both would earn 60SC in J.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

There are a huge number of hotels typically resort/tropical island style over the full range. There is little to do here so our two nights was enough as we don't do the lay around in lounges by the pool thing. Done it once so no need to go again. I feel it is easier/more effective to chase points flying cheap F around the US and not bother going J outside. Depends on what you want. You may like to lounge around the pool with soft sea breezes and sip your coughtails. It is however not a cheap destination. The name of the hotel escapes me. Must be getting old.

AA Carribean (and a lot of Canada I think too) market the 2 cabin product as J and Y (ie: Business and Economy) rather than F/Y on domestic runs, and as such they book different buckets.. this is why the US domestic runs are so attractive as they book into the P (discounted First) bucket, rather than D or I for Business.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Not sure if mentioned before but I'm sorely tempted by these on the QF website:

DRW-MEL-AKL (J) - 160SCs for $937
CHC-SYD-DRW (F, but SYD-DRW books into Flex J) - 215SCs for NZD$1,210 (AUD$1,139)

Combined I think that's 375SCs for $2,076 or $5.53 per SC. I've currently got a 50% offer which would give me 562SCs at $3.69 per SC.

Sounds great with the 50% which I have but can't bring it up:

Flight Search error:

  • This fare option is not defined in our database. Please select another option.(#7110)

I think it might be to do with the fact bookings out of NZ are broken at the moment (per another thread). I cannot get F fares on the CHC-SYD leg right now either.

The fare CHC-DRW is a bit fiddly - it is only available when QF846 operates so make sure you've got the "flexible" box checked when searching.

Thanks for that, hope it's sorted soon then.

Can you possibly post the link to this thread, have done a few searches and can't find it. Cheers

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I think that they (QF) don't release F availability too early.
Unless there is going to be another enhancement between now and Dec.
Flying F from BNE/SYD/MEL to NZ is a very cheap way to get into the F lounge for those of us who are not WP/P1.
I have checked, even the QF website is not showing up LA flights SYD - AKL for Dec at the moment, only showing their own 737s.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Keep on watching to see what happens.
Not sure if any F seats can be linked into an Aust dom J seat in the one booking.
Even when there was an F service trans Tasman, trying to get a booking in F with a J Aust dom at the same time, on the same PNR needed a phone up, or that error code comes up.
This Dec is another long weekend, so if and when F comes back, I will try one booking Aust dom J to link with F trans Tasman online and see how far I can go.

Chrizztofa's runs above were displaying on Thursday night which included an F with Dom J as were other F routes in and out of Aus and NZ. The F sale ex NZ finishes at Midnight on the 18th NZ time.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

And there were no "error" messages or orange wordings at the top of the online booking stage?
I will try it out when (if) the Dec 380s EK metal QF flights across the ditch appear.
Edit: Just did a dummy booking, in J CHC - SYD - ADL 21Apr16 (same PNR) NZD$1151, bookable online.
Did a dummy booking, in F linked with J, CHC - SYD (F), SYD - ADL (J) 21Apr16, it comes up with the orange box, and error code, undefined.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

There are some great MH sale fares ex-BKK at the moment for travel until 30 June - for example:

BKK-HKG-BKK - 240SCs for THB11,545 (AUD$464)
BKK-DPS-BKK - 200SCs for THB19,805 (AUD$795)

Are you sure about those SCs?

If I'm reading it right they're in Z class, is that right? I think this should earn business SCs, but the Qantas calculator won't let me select MH between BKK and HKG for calculation. Grrr.

I don't think the calculator has been properly updated. Per the points table (see: https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/flying/airline-earning#mh) Z class earns at Business rates except for flights between Australia/NZ/Middle East/Europe and Malaysia. That was a big blow for me as I used to get 100SCs for KUL-DRW but now only get 40...so I now will try via DPS and fly between DRW-DPS to get into Asia.

Therefore the earns on the flights should be as follows (miles taken from gcmap.com):
BKK-KUL (754 miles but under 750 for purposes of SC earn when I took this flight last year) - 40SCs
KUL-HKG (1575 miles) - 80SCs
KUL-DPS (1219 miles) - 60SCs

You may be able to get more SCs on routes >2,500 miles from KUL (e.g. PEK or ICN) which would earn 100SCs each way.

EDIT: You will need to select BKK-KUL and KUL-HKG on the calculator separately. MH don't fly directly between BKK and HKG (or DPS). You should be able to select Business on those routes.

Yes, I've done it myself. Make sure that you don't pay full price and get one of the ~800NZD sales!
