i got very badly burnt from that sort of comment from QF, So my thought is get the 205 needed and don't chance it

Sounds like it is likely to cost me about $1600. I think this year isnt my year for Platinum :)

You aren't going to get SCs for much less than $8/SC on any domestic flight. The cheapest that I have found was around $5.60.
$8 is a good ballpark figure if you're short of SCs for a goal.

You can, of course, get it cheaper if QF grant you an offer.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi all, I'll be flying SFO-DFW while in the USA on 23 September next year and am thinking of flying in F with AA via LAX or PHX, which would net me 120/130 SCs (my goal is 100). According to ITA/Expedia the cost on the day I want to travel is about AU$660. At $5+ per SC it's not as cheap as others often find here. Given I don't have flexibility with dates do you think this is worth it and I should book now, or is there much prospect for some sort of sale on these fares in the next couple of months?

I called up the frequent flyer number on the back of my card. Just spoke to whoever answered. I asked them what happens if I fall short, they said to call back a week before my "end" date and they will talk about it further and review.

I just called the number and got it sent for review at 11am, by 2pm the nice lady at QFF called back and comp'ed my SG to WP.

Hope it goes well with you as well.

Thanks for the update mate. I might give them a call. Did you ask/say anything specifically?

I spoke to them, she said with my remaining 2 flights this year Ill be 205 short and we to call back after the trip is complete. She said they will try and look at it, but 205 is usually too many. I mentioned I have Etihad gold status meaning I could go Virgin and she said she understands and to just try again. :(

Nothing specific, the only question was "they'll want to know why you couldn't make the rest of the 80 status credits up" and I said "because of work commitments and getting sick in the last month, I wasn't able to make the rest of the credits up".

Maybe getting Ethiad comp'ed (to QFF) might be easier? I remember reading this article earlier in the year, maybe it might help (can't send links yet <10 posts, but google "etihad comp QFF", its the first link).

Definitely wait till June-July to book, fares tend to be cheaper a month-or-two before.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

This is by no means an amazing status run in terms or earner but a bit more civilized trip in terms of timing. No overnights in 737/MD-80 etc.. If you are happy to do that then you could earn even more but after doing two grueling status runs SFO-xx_-xx_-xx_-xx_-SJU in 737 and MD-80 over the years I was looking for something a bit easier. Also keen to try the 787 and Transcon A320.

I am also trying for as many different types of AA aircraft as possible.

I had $1780 worth of AA credit from a cancelled flight so that was my budget to work within – cost came out at $1738. If you switch the transcon for 2 x 737 flights it comes down by $200

Routing
LAS – LAX Airbus A321 (32B) V2 - First
LAX – SFO Boing 737-800 - First
SFO – JFK Airbus A321 (32B) V1 Transcon (overnight) - Business
JFK – SJU Boeing 757-200 (752) International Config - Business
SJU – MIA Boing 737-800 - Business

Stop overnight

MIA – ORD Boeing 767-300 (763) V1 - First
ORD – DFW Boeing 787-8 - First
DFW – LAS Airbus A321 (32B) V2 - First

Status Credits = 570 so works out $3.04 per credit (US$)

Over the year I have gained much from these forums so hopefully this helps someone else.

Unfortunately, LAS is a terrible place to start for SJU runs now. The cheaper fares only permit routings with 1 transfer in the middle.

For a start in SEA:

SEA-PHX-DFW-ORD-BOS, one way, in September, $US756 for 360SC @ $US2.10/SC (although I have seen it for $US691 in July @ $US1.92/SC). Can return the next day for about the same price.

SEA-PHX-DFW-ORD, one way, $US477 in September for 270SC @ $US1.76/SC ($US438 @$1.62/SC, on various dates):

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hey guys,

Been doing a lot of lurking on these forums. I'll be in the US for a few months next year and trying to find some runs out of preferably DCA (Washington D.C.) or JFK. I've only tried the routes to South America but I'm not having much luck finding anything where you start from the east coast.

I'm hoping to make it to SG (400 credits short) before the end of January.

Any tips on where I could start?

Some suggest Baltimore Washington BWI JUST out of DC on the Amtrak line.

Take a trip to Disney World - starting at DCA, via the Windy City, then to the Magic City, and on to Disney World ;)

170SC and US$315 each way when I last flew it.

Looking at doing something similar in early 2017. Did a dummy on matrix as a multi-city for Mar 2016. All F came out $527, quite a few flight choices too. Thanks heaps. I hope there are no fish-hooks! SC earn seems to be 320 for the round trip.

Thanks codash1099!
I asked because I can add it to Check My Trip which uses Amadeus and not in QFF MMB.
