Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

Oh dear - sounds like he doesn't like to be away from his mummy and daddy. But he is a resilient fellow and I am sure he will get over it. Where are you off to this time?

Christchurch for a few days, I have to deliver some very expensive car parts for my friend’s Toyota that I brought back from Germany.
Also SCs, especially for the boss, but it seemed we have both been given WP for next period anyway.

We dropped Max off at the cattery last Monday, prior to us leaving early Tuesday. I booked the early flight out of Christchurch so we would be back early enouth to pick him up. Don’t do weekend drop offs, nor pickups anymore, sigh!
Organise friend to pick him up Friday afternoon, drop him home, feed him, our great neighbours came over Saturday morning to feed and play with him, he was his usual hyper self, happy to play chase in his tunnel. He is their clayton’s cat. :)

We get home a few hours later, Max is very much out of sorts, there was a lot of vomit and he had the runs as well. He seemed to be foaming at the mouth, but it could have been flecks of vomit.
Thought he may have eaten something or been bitten by something, his mouth didn’t look right, a bit puffy.
Phone 3 vets before he can be seen, over to the north side to an emergency vet. They managed to take his temperature which hasn’t happened before as he puts up a fight, mind I would as well!
He is badly dehydrated and very much in shock, bloods taken, put on a drip and pain killers, possible scan to see if he has eaten something if he doesn’t improve tonight.
I suspect spider bite, we have a few red backs about and he is so inquisitive, just as likely to try to get too close.
So this is at the vet. Feel so sorry for him, not a happy chappy.

Fingers and everything else crossed that it turns out ok.

Oh dear - poor Max and poor parents worrying, I did read that cats are not affected by red back venom but can't remember where it was - something to do with animals that walk on 4 feet.
Daughter has had a lot of emergency visits with her 2 puss cats - most recently one with food issues and one that ate a ribbon and concerns about it wrapping round the intestine.

Fingers crossed he will be fine - though it will have knocked him a bit and he will need lots of loving and attention.

Overnight at the vet, they say he seems chirpy enough, he is eating and is curious, all outward signs are good, but he still has a high temp and it has gone up again.
So more blood work and observation as they don’t know why it’s so high.
Last time I went to NZ was when he had the blockage in his bowel. Might have to stop going there. :)

Fingers crossed he makes a full recovery. Poor thing.

He is just home, no idea what caused his original problems, high temperature was possibly from the opioid pain killers he was given, his bloods showed elevated white cells, but really nothing else, but he was dehydrated.
Maybe he was just showing us his displeasure at being left alone, although we still think the shock was caused by something.
Just so happy he is home and seemingly ok. :)

Good to hear he is home and appears none the worse - but it does remain a worry there in the back of your mind as the vet couldn't pinpoint what caused the problem. Lots of love and cuddles for him.🐈

Update on Max, no obvious external signs, but he didn’t like the top of his being touched. So, he possibly has hit his head and suffered concussion.

He has become even more affectionate, even wanting to sit on me, so it’s a bit of a worry for our upcoming trip in 5 weeks time. We will be gone a bit over 2 weeks. Definitely will try a different cattery as the one we have used is too small.

Meanwhile these are from a reddit thread about Ukraine. Ukrainian soldier with a local cat.
