Did anyone else receive this invitation from QF to pay $500 measly dollars to have dinner with John Travolta?

Dear Mr xx_xx_,

Qantas Ambassador John Travolta will be visiting Australia in
early May and has just agreed to join us for a black tie fundraising
dinner to be held as part of our Sharing the Spirit programme.
As a special opportunity for our Frequent Flyers, we would like
to invite you and your partner to join us at the dinner, to be held
on the Qantas Melbourne Jetbase on Friday 7 May.

Apart from the opportunity to meet John you will also be able to
view his aircraft, a former Qantas 707. The cost of the ticket
is $500 per couple and part of the funds raised on the evening
will go towards the Starlight Foundation, a Qantas-supported charity
that raises money to help brighten the lives of seriously ill
children and their families.

Only 125 couples will be attending the dinner so we need your
booking to secure your place as soon as possible....

I hope they don't intend on showing 'Battleship Earth' as part of the evening's entertainment.

Help I've been snubbed by the in-crowd ... again!

Since I opted to get the QFF newsletter by email I don't think I've received anything from Qantas apart from the initial acknowledgement.

BTW has anyone ever received a flight update by SMS?

Pretty cheap, until you start asking him about the neutron blaster and how tachyon particles work to drive the wave-motion mindhead unit to promote eternal peace.

Then it comes at about $50,000 a question.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If he's out here with his fabled 707, then wouldn't he do better at fund raising by hosting an in flight dinner on board his personal aircraft?

Surely there would be a few of us 'aircraft nuts' to take up such an offer?
(depending upon the cost, of course).

Or..... I am I having myself on?

regards,

I think the term 'airplane nut' succinctly sums up anyone who would want to have an airborne dinner with John Travolta in a 707.

I suppose a ride on a B707 with JT for $500 would be close to the discount economy seats paid for MEL-SYD-MEL trip anyway. Put in that context, it's cheap. :?

Or maybe it should read "I think the term 'nut' succinctly sums up anyone who would want to have an airborne dinner with John Travolta"

:D :p :wink:

Special dish for the dinnner - Live Frog in the Salad!!!
Daily Telegraph reported that a passenger was horrified to see a live frog in the salad box in a QF trans - tasman flight. The frog was handed over to the NZ Quarantine and they killed the frog by putting it into a freezer!

Well, yes some of us got the invite and are going - see my thread here.

Was hard to pass up with Mrs LW being a fan of John Travolta's and being a loving husband, how could I refuse??

I'll get some digital photo's and see if I can load them somewhere - I'm very interested in (hoping for) a tour of his 707 - having seen the 24 min John Travolta/QF story on QF flights on Saturday/Sunday during my MR.

The itinerary for the night is still to come by email...

Welcome back Lindsay - I don't think you've graced these pages for a while. There hasn't been a lot of discussion - you'll see by my feeble attempts to get things going again!! I see you've been moonlighting on the flyertalk site? Oh that's right you said you haven't flown lately.

Enjoy the night with Tony Manero. Wear your Saturday Night Fever suit to impress him!! :wink:

rormad, I've been lurking but not posting...nothing to add lately so I'm not about to post just to keep my count climbing.

Still waiting for the Entree Card with 3 days to go...but this to be expected with QF... :roll: Might just give them a call to hurry them up...

Now that was worth the price of admission.

Will be doing a full report over the weekend, posting everything like:

* Menu
* Wines
* "Come Fly With Me" Video, John's Spirit of Australia Tour (showing on QF flights)
* Photo's
* Video (28mins) of John and Kelly talking with Richard Wilkins and questions from the audience.
* Video of my walk through of his 707...

Actually, was surprising to see a lot of similar aged (30-something) Plat FF's and CL's there...

One interesting point...Table 4 didn't even show up...that's a lot of money donated to CARE Australia and the rest down the toilet...so being the gentleman, I snagged some extra Video's and Menu's for my fellow table 13'ers and helped them with some Autographs (Kay McGrath, Richard Wilkins)..etc. Unfortunately, we didn't win the lucky door prize - two J tickets on the BNE/LAX direct service starting next month.
