Thanks for your feedback CWM.

Assuming we're all talking about Canberra payments (was that what your 60k was for Johnstone? 1% surcharge sounds like a different merchant.) I read the T&Cs before applying and it was a clear NO for Canberra. Calling them to ask only draws unwanted attention to it.

I took a chance based on others' experience and has paid off so far. Waiting for my statement to cut off in a few days to see if the last batch credited before I burn anymore surcharge (@0.42%).

I'm wary of putting too much through in case that's the one they don't pay on. Also diverted more spending to DC so they see I don't just use it for that one big merchant (in case it makes any difference).

If your payment was for the same merchant Johnstone and your points come through, will give me the confidence to do a larger one this month. Please let us know if your points come through. I'll do the same when I get my statement.

Yeah mine's not a Canberra payment - it's for a supplier. Fingers crossed for the points. Personally, I don't see how they can justify not giving points on prepayments. Essentially, we're spending the same money, but it's better for the Bank in terms of their cash flow.

Thanks for the feedback Johnstone. You should be ok then. Will be interested in your feedback on whether the points come through.

Just did my first 'approval and prepay' for a 4-figure sum. Went through the portal OK. Shame about the long wait to see if the points actually post

from my experience the only points that haven't posted thus far (10 months into my DC experience) is BPay using the DC. Bpay using the MC goes through fine.

Thanks for that feedback Deen. I've previously done some large BPays with DC and not been paid either. Good to know MC is an option.

Has anyone considered using diners for hyatt points? Or is it mainly spg

Nothing stopping you transferring to Hyatt. Just not sure what the conversion to airline points is like. The 5k SPG bonus when you transfer 20k is a big plus.

The main reason people transfer to SPG is to then convert to airline points. This increases the value of the points as you end up with more (except for VA) than if you transferred to the airline directly. For example, transfer to American Airlines directly and you get 0.5 AA miles/DC point, do it via SPG and you get 0.625. You also get an increased range of transfer partners that way too.

Hyatt likely to offer slightly less value for a hotel redemption than SPG.

Deen - what do you mean by "Bpay using the MC"? Do you mean pre-pay your MC using Bpay and then spending? Or do you mean that we can actually make Bpay payments using the MC - I can't see anywhere in the Diners Club online system which allows me to do that

there was a loophole where you could set up a Citibank online banking profile with the MC 16 digit number (since the card is issued by Citi) and this way, both cards show up on screen and you can pay BPay bills with them. but when I did this and paid bpay bills with the DC, points never post. also I think the loophole is now closed as a few others haven't had luck in setting up the citi profile.

Ah I see - thanks. I don't have a Citibank profile anyways, so won't be an option for me.

Soooo.....apparently there's a limit of 12k on the card??? My wife just tried using it at Coles and both got declined coz we have gone over that limit for the month and we still have 5 days to go. They are saying I can BPay or pre pay but I'm not sure what they mean? I don't have my own business or anything so this has just been holiday spending.

Hi Keftetha.... yes for new users they put a soft limit on. mine was $20k. u can bpay some money into the card (from another bank account - see your online profile for instructions). takes a day to show up though. after 5-6 months I called up and got it increased to $30k no issues... as long you are on time with payments. if u feel that $12k isn't enough, get into the habit of paying in (via Bpay or other methods) around mid-month to top up.

Ok thanks for the quick reply Deen. I thought the idea was that there was no limit on a charge card. I guess they have to make a limit somewhere! If I BPay do I still get points for it?

yes the BPay payment is just to bring your balance down a bit so u can still spend. just don't pay the whole amount or let it go negative before your statement arrives (usually around 20th of the month). I did this once and they had to manually add the points as it doesn't like negative credit balances on the statement.

Hi guys, I'm confused when do the points from last month's statement come through? Is it when this month's statement gets issued? Or when I pay this month's statement. I'm trying to redeem for a trip in October and was counting on this one.

Thanks.
