I'd like to book a night at HSW for my parents without me staying and have them receive the Diamond bells and whistles without paying the standard rate. If I check in and give them the room key would that work? I have no idea if they'd get queried at the lounge because of an age discrepancy. Does your official +1 have to be registered by name? I'd find it a bit weird checking into a room with my mother that has only a King bed!

I guess the other option is I book 2 queens, say there are 3 of us and hope we all get the benefits extended and then I don't actually stay the night.

Don't over complicate things - play the simple odds.

Your room number and surname are the keys.

Book for 2 (or 1 under spouse stays free); check in yourself (solo preferably) as normal, hand them the keycards discretely and leave them to it.

(Also, word up your parents on discretion ;))

Thanks Serfty. That's my ideal scenario - I just thought there might be some unanticipated roadblocks.

If I decide it's unethical I may just book 2 rooms and stay myself as my impression from previous reports is that the benefits would likely be extended to the 2nd room.

Diamond benefits are in no way worth the cost of an extra room. For the typical rate at the HSW (which is, what, $280+ a night?) you could pay to upgrade the to the exec floor several times over and pay for wifi access, at which point they're only missing out on a couple of bottles of water and a newspaper and the handwritten welcome note, and you'll still be at least $150 a night ahead.

I understand your point but I also get the benefit of staying at a hotel + breakfast + drinks etc. I've decided to book 2 rooms as I'm keen to check the place out anyway and can earn some brownie points with my girlfriend.

If its a weekend you are looking for i've found them under the Any weekend Any time for $187 atm, sometimes you have to check both nights to see if its only avail for one of them and do two bookings if you want a Fri and Sat but still good savings. I've had a few recent 2 room stays booked and taken friends with me as Gold, both times at HOTP and HSW they were upgraded to Exec Lounge with me, and of course I got the extra points for the 2nd room :)
