I am currently attempting to do an analysis to determine whether Qantas or Skywards would be the better option for me, but without the ability to determine the taxes on particular flights - I cannot finalise my calculations

I understand that the calculator on QFF would advise the taxes when making a "dummy" booking - but if you do not have enough points - you cannot get to the final booking page which I assume has the taxes component displayed.:(

What other methods are available to me to calculate the expected taxes?

This also goes for Skywards redemptions..

Maybe Im just not using the right calculator ?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Re: Determining taxes on Qantas Classic Awards - how to without actually having point

One way is to visit matrix.itasoftware.com and plug in the flight details in their search. When the results come up, select the Qantas fare and click on "details".

It will show how the fare is constructed. Taxes for a Brisbane to Singapore flight look like this:
Australian Passenger Movement Charge (AU) AU$55.00
Australian Safety & Security Surcharge (WG) AU$3.36
Australian Int'l Passenger Service Charge (WY) AU$23.73
(YQ) AU$175.00
QF YR surcharge (YR) AU$30.00

Add them up, and this will resemble the taxes Qantas will charge on a redemption. It's usually wise to select the correct class of travel (eg Business or Economy) as some taxes and charges are based on cabin flown.

Hope that assists. Welcome.
