I have about 400 000 points and want to use them for the family to go to South Africa and Mauritius over Xmas 2004. I was unable to use them last year as I only tried to book 6 months in advance. I was told to book 11 months before the date I wish to return (19th January 2005) but was unsucessful - aparently there is a loophole that people use where they book a flight with the return date 1 day in advance of their departure date (and change it later) - therefore they can book long before I was told I should!
Any advise on how to get some flights as we really need to be there for my Dad's 80th birthday on 31st December.

I assume that your points are with Qantas.

Because you want the whole family to go (how many of them?), it might be a good idea to call QF ff centre and discuss the options. They are generally very helpful in finding alternatives.

One piece of advice - have an open mind and be flexible. If it is not very inconvenient, you may have to spilt the family in to 2 flights.

I believe the key to flying free is being flexible. After all, it is a holiday. Why stick on to fixed dates?

Janet,

As you haven't recorded your location in your 'user profile', it's also a bit harder to give you some options.

Assuming you were in Sydney (or anywhere on the East Coast), you may like to consider buying some 'cheap' Red e Specials to Perth.... then use your points from Perth to South Africa. You MAY find, that there is greater availability from Perth, rather than Sydney.

Of course, as previously stated, it all depends on how many of your family are travelling....

good luck....
