Delta

Welcome to the OP.

Perhaps a little more description of the sort of info you're looking for (including class of travel)?

Flight amenities? Seating? Connections in SYD/LAX?

What sort of info would you like?

It would be nice to think that existing members will give new member asking their first question a little leeway as it will often be general. Often follow up questions like from docjames  elicit fuller response

Remember when you were a new member and didn't quite know how things worked?

Re: Delta.

Thanks moderator and Docjames for your understanding of my novice status. My wife recently booked a package deal for a US,Canada and Alaska cruise. I have just been informed that we have to fly Delta ( I generally fly Qantas) and on looking at their website it almost gives me a feeling of them being a "Jetstar" type airline unless you upgrade. We are also looking at hiring a 7 seater van and driving from Seattle to lax post cruise and then flying home. Any tips on rental companies , one way fees and other costs.
Hope this is not too long.

Thanks,

Stu

Re: Delta.

Delta are a large US carrier and I personally wouldn't be concerned flying them.

In flight service will vary depending on whether you are flying long haul (international) or US domestic. If you consider they are a bit like Virgin in Australia (short haul food largely for purchase, with some flights getting free snacks but nothing substantial). Longer haul it's like most carriers, meals included and alcoholic beverage free with the meal.

The Delta site has quite a bit of info re: service in each cabin and flight (varies by length).
Economy Class Flights: Main Cabin | Delta Air Lines

They also have info about the aircraft and a seat guide
Boeing 777-200LR (77B)

You can decide if you wish to pay for upgraded seating etc.

The only advice I can I've re: rentals is to shop around, and in the US, take most of the insurances. Go to a couple of the "major company" websites and make sure you understand the insurance terminology (LDW etc) as it can be a bit confusing.

Some companies will offer discounted one-ways compared to others but best to shop around. As usual, make sure you thoroughly inspect the car, and every single mark is noted before driving off the lot (even if they say "minor no need to note") as interpretation of damage can vary when returning elsewhere!

Depending on how long you're renting for, and time available at each end, a pickup in town rather than the airport can often save money (but may not be worth the hassle).

Others may have more info.

Has anyone flown recently from Sydney to LA with Delta?

As mentioned above, Delta are one of the biggest US airlines and I would have no qualms about flying with them. We had some friends who fly Delta to LA in J and they have been quite happy with the airline.

if you are tempted by their Premium Economy prices...compared to say Virgin Australia...or QANTAS... be advised it is just Economy with a few more inches of leg room...not a "full" Premium Y cabin....

Of course at the right price that might still represent value....

Do you have any choice of Cabin/fare?

I flew LAX-SYD on DL last august after my VA flight was canceled some weeks before.

As a VA WP I was able to score an aisle C+ seat.

It was Ok , but would prefer VA in economy on that route over DL.
