Dec 21/Jan 22 list of airlines with Y inventory open for return to Australia

And another heads up - transit through Thailand must be under 12 hours.

Another heads up, too. You can only transit through Singapore on one ticket, to/from certain countries, and on certain airlines.

Singapore is a difficult case. You either have to meet the strict transit requirement, or if the country you are departing from has VTL with Singapore, you can elect to enter Singapore proper. But you have to be careful that you can't do both (ie. you cannot book a VTL flight if you have no intention to enter SIngapore and merely wants to transit).

Indeed. I think it's a little too complex to be honest.

For Australians abroad who’ve been vaccinated in one of the VTL countries (eg UK) travelling to Australia on a VTL flight - with same ticket connection in SIN is fine - as long as you meet the requirement for the VTL flight. From what I can tell this excludes those vaccinated in Australia as the certificates issued in Australia are not yet recognised by SG authorities.

Singapore have probably been blindsided by all the change in NSW so give them a week or two. SQ and Changi will get it sorted it’s in their commercial interests to do so

From what I understand though, isn't the VTL meant to be a reciprocal sort of arrangement? That being the case (and going by what the PM has said), are we only going to see a VTL sometime in 2022 then when they open up to non-residents?

CX seems to be available now but the prices I looked at were pretty scary

(There was a Y+ award seat MEL-HKG in early Dec so must be some redemption seats loading)

Waiting for any Skyteam options such as Garuda (to Bali ?), Korean Air or Vietnam for urgent run before 31Dec to save 700K expiring points

QF, UA, DL, SQ, EK have opened their inventory properly so far. QR has opened some, but overall very little. Nothing from NH, CX, JL, EY yet.
I really wonder what QR's play is here and when they make an official announcement for Y & J as I would think that they could also quite easily scale up opps into AUS.

CX will be interesting to watch given the transit requirements in HK (https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_DK/covid-19/hong-kong-travel-restrictions.html) and also crew availability/quarantine protocols.

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether this flight is likely to go ahead? 6 Jan. Swiss and Thai.
Thanks

Apparently, more and more airlines are offering seats to SYD (I am looking at Nov-Dec). Hoewever, rates are too high, about $2000 for inbound flight. (outbound all are selling about $1000, which is reasonable)
The only decent offers I found - Thai and Scoot

That's my experience too. I but the bullet with $2600 return to WAW. 24/12-14/1.
