For those, like me, that are happy international borders are "opening soon", this is a list of all airlines with inventory in Y open to return to Australia in Dec 21 and Jan 22. I'll update nightly as posts come in.

Airline, date opened:
Qantas, 1 Oct

Thankyou. Please keep an eye out for Adelaide arrivals as currently I'm not getting anywhere.

There's some availability in January on Malaysian Airlines ADL-KUL direct in both directions, with onwards connections. Prices seem OK.

Might be a long stop in KUL if coming from LHR, but not overnight.

If ITA finds an itinerary is it just a matter of getting a TA to book it? MAS does seem to offer a lot of options, uses Turkish Airlines - interline with luggage?

EY wide open from Jan
I just checked Etihad, the cheapest from Europe to Australia in Y I could find (as part of an Australia to Europe to Australia fare) was $3000 one way. I'll consider that still subject to caps therefore.

I understand not. A lot of fares being advertised are phantom - they're not actually flying at the moment. Especially the case with AY.

QR also slowly opening up Y inventory for Jan.
Those expecting 2019 prices might have to wait until Black Friday sales or next year.

And also mixing with MAS seems to bring price down for direct arrival in SA.

Y pricing for return flights out of Australia, both to the UK and USA, have really started to normalise.

Y+/J however is very steep.

I guess this thread isn't really being updated? For SYD-LAX for late Dec, I'm now seeing flights to/from SYD on QF, DL, and AA, with nonstops and FJ and HA offering one-stop service via NAN and HNL respectively. No UA yet , I'd think they would want to open up SYD-SFO soon. FJ has one-stop service to SFO via NAN.

I'm already subscribing to this thread and when I see something released from Europe, I'll post here immediately. Looking for a one way from FRA or DUS though AMS and BRU would also work. Late December/ early January, family is here (Germany) so ideally after Christmas.

If someone sees something, please let me know. Family of four so it obviously adds up, so far Thai at 823 Euro each the best option. Thanks in advance.

Seems for Europe, there are a lot of reasonably priced *A flights, mostly on Thai.

Emirates seems to have loaded theirs too - not so reasonable.

Singapore also have flights, I'd call them "moderately" priced.

Waiting for OneWorld options such as CX and JAL, just need another 50SC for QF to reach gold status. #Firstworldproblems

QF, UA, DL, SQ, EK have opened their inventory properly so far. QR has opened some, but overall very little. Nothing from NH, CX, JL, EY yet.

Inventory is indeed open, but very expensive for some - like EK. I wonder whether competition will come into it out if this is it for this Christmas.

Just a heads up for anyone flying from LHR-SYD, you can't transit US until Nov 8th unless you are US citizen or green card holder. Some of the cheapest flights are LHR-LAX-SYD and I fear it would catch a few off-guard since US don't allow sterile transit.

Edit: What a strange feeling to see Australia opens to UK travellers before US does.....
