Straitman and Ishkaban got it - it's to make getting into and out of the seats quicker and easier - it definitely helps on time performance.

If the 2 seconds it takes to put an armrest down helps with the planes on-time performance, l'm all for it.

I heard an interesting objection to DJ today. The basics was that he objected as DJ didn't give him anywhere to hang his suit jacket (and this from someone that would spend several thousand per suit)

Thought I'd bump this up again!

Still waiting patiently for the much anticipated announcements...surely can't be too much longer?!

Came across this when reading one of the trip reports on here for DJ...thought I might highlight it here for crazydave or one of the other DJ reps...

There was one negative of this flight though – of the 4 crew, 3 had their turn on the microphone. I’m sure the lady who lead the safety demo was the Cabin Supervisor, however another lady did make a few announcements, and a male did the ‘we’re about the land’ spiel. IMO, I wasn’t too sure who was ‘in charge’ which is more of a professional image issue than anything else.

I agree with this comment, and it happens on almost all DJ flights...too many different voices, unprofessional PA styles etc...in an emergency preparation the Cabin Supervisor would be conducting the PA's, so familiarity with this voice as the one in charge on the PA is important to me. I believe it to give a more professional feel to the flight also when just the person in charge in the cabin is on the PA. Perhaps this could be passed onto the appropriate people at DJ ?

Is it normal at most airlines to have only the Cabin Manager on the PA?

Can't wait to finally fly the new Virgin soon!!!

Markis10 has revealed that Virgin plan to announce some details at the Avalon air show. Perhaps send him a message see what else he knows...!

Postings elsewhere have indicated there's an announcement scheduled for Feb 23rd - 1 week from today.

Makes some sense, although if they are going to do it next week why not the 24th (Launch of AUH flights on VA metal) :?:

Maybe to try and build some media momentum. Announcement on 23 then 24 new flights start. Sounds like an opportunity for coverage 2 days in a row.

Our half yearly results are being announced next Wednesday 23rd, the day before inaugural AUH flight. Thursday's focus will obviously be the inaugural.

Interesting. I have to agree that not everyone sounds great over a PA, and honestly, if you are amplifying someone's voice, it better be a nice one. I've heard some PAs that sound like the flight attendant barking orders at you.

I am in PE on DJ678 Per - Mel on Feb 24th and on DJ697 Mel - Per on Feb 25th, does that mean I get a different service this time round? A new plane? If not what flight would I have to change to to get it?

New planes enter service in May operating transcon routes.

I don't believe if a new business product is unveiled on Feb 24 that it's going to be available immediately (or if so on a very small number of aircraft to begin with).

I think we are going to see new brand/uniforms/livery first then new J will launch with the A330s in May with gradual rollout to rest of fleet.

Doh. Oh well, here was me wishing. I have 4 return flights before that. :-(

I agree. While I am not sure of the timetable we'll be finding out things, I can't imagine it is all coming out next week. Will be a bit of an information overload.

Virgin Blue’s past has been full of conservative baby step, now synonymous with its failed New World Carrier Strategy.

e.g.
  • The Blue Room = FAILURE
  • Live2Air = FAILURE
  • Domestic Premium Economy (with Buy on Board) = FAILURE
IMO Virgin needs to implement a strategy of SHOCK AND AWE.

A campaign of small rolling announcements, in an attempt to build momentum, may be too much of the same, which obviously wasn’t enough. (I think that sometimes “information overload” can be a good thing - in the end that being the message itself!)

What I hope to see is a commitment to substance, not mere Bransonesque style publicity stunts. (Which are often focussed more on home-brand building, as a whole, rather than the airline.)

In an outline, we know where they are going anyway, and I think they will make a big splash when they are ready. I just don't think we'll see the whole lot together.

Bump.

For absolutely no reason except that i was just re-reading and i think it makes for an interesting documentation of how much VA have changed in the last couple of years.

I've just done the same and am thinking the exact same as you 777!
