With a number of Talented ex- Woolies managers now working for the Coles Liquor Group, I suspect it won't be too long till Wesfarmers catches up to the Woolies Liquor division as well.

Cant see it. They've got First Choice all wrong. Many stores closing already.

Beg to differ.

Wesfarmers have steamed ahead of Woolies in the Supermarket division in terms of sales growth, Quarter after quarter for the past 5 years.

No wonder Woolies lost their head of Supermarkets & even the CEO recently.

Coles petrol division is stronger than Woolies nowadays with a better store network than its competitor.

The Wesfarmers Liquor Division is next for a triumphant comeback, if woolies continue to Drop the ball & look the other way.

CCP, I assume you are a one eyed Westfarmers share holder from that response. I'll declare that I own both WOW and WES shares.

20 Frist Choice store closures across Australia since the beginning of the year sends a very clear message about their inability to match DM and understand what the market wants.

Their store locations, stock levels and prices just don't cut it. Flybuys simply aren't enough to attract me to First Choice stores, even though they are closer than DM's for me.

Believe it not, I have never owned shares in WES or ColesMyer as they were formally known.

I did own shares in WOW up until 2 years ago & I'm glad I sold when I did as the company has not been managed effectively in past few years & the share price has suffered as a result.

Woolies do have a superior proposition in their liquor retail offering currently, although It remains to be seen if they can continue their market leading position in this market moving forward.

Woolies are are iconic Australian retailer who have unfortunately lost touch with the changing dynamics of Australian Consumers & the impact of a number of new entrants who will enter our shores in the coming few years will undoubtedly cause further headaches for the company.

Since the beginning of the year I stopped showing my card. It's now left at home. Am I missing out on anything?

As far as I can tell there is no tangible benefit to being a member. I never step foot into a DM store anymore except to purchase specific products not sold anywhere else - bought a bottle of Shiraz by Bullant for the missus last week.

I choose instead to patronize First Choice who I find are competitive in terms of prices and FB points/offers are a bonus. FYI - I mostly buy beer/red wine regularly and spirits less frequently, picking up the odd bottle of bubbly for special occasions.

There are a couple of very minor benefits:

1) A record of your purchases is kept.

2) Re-ordering from your history is now possible.

until very recently I was doing the purchasing of a small business' liquor needs,

never stepped one foot past the the registers, as I did click and collect, (get them to do the work for you!)

had a card, sometimes showed it, sometimes didnt,

never got anything remotely free or discount using it,

I dont show it , in fact I tell staff when I do go to checkout that I dont have one
