Geoff Merrill Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz 2016
Buy 2016 Geoff Merrill Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz: RRP $65 | 96 Points - Ken Gargett: An epic McLaren Vale Shiraz built for the cellar, the 2016 Geoff Merrill Reserve Shiraz underwent an extensive 29-month maturation in a combination of new French and American oak.auscellardoor.com.au
Wine Companion 92 points.
Matured for 29 months in American and French barrels (80% new). This is a complex wine; the impact of the oak is substantial to say the least, but time has smoothed the fruit and oak into a coherent whole. Will outlive many consumers – myself included. Closure: Screw cap. 14.5% alcohol. AUD$65 (Drink by 2043)

This looks to be the straight cabernet from the range, the winefront reviews is very positive
This is a very good cabernet. It’s warm, well-flavoured, well-structured and persistent. It tastes of violets and blackcurrant, cloves and bay leaves, though running through it there’s a redcurrant-splashed-with-dust element that is most attractive. There’s a lot of tannin here too; it sits as a long, stretched-out frame on which the fruit sits. If it wasn’t for the alcohol warmth, and the slight dip through the mid-palate, I’d be pushing even higher score-wise. - 93+ CM
