Frux Frugis 2018 isn't really outstanding, had one last night in a flight of 6 2018 Shiraz from Barossa and McLaren Vale and it ranked dead last. Admittedly strong competition with Sorby Adams The Thing, Travis Earth, Pertaringa Yeoman, Cape Barren The Vale, Cimicky Blackmoor being the other 5. It showed some spicy/estery character, lacked mid-palate power, seemed a little unbalanced and astringent on the finish.

The last one I had was a 2014, consumed late 2021, I believe made after Rose Kentish departed, but maybe not? It's an OK wine, but definitely not worth the touted RRP. My notes say stewed fruit, angular tannins, over-ripe, baggy - developed some nicer leathery tones after decanting.
Might be nice for some, but I struggled with it.

NB. Had a few vintages back then and largely speaking my thoughts were always the same.

I had 2022 Cali before and bought it in the last mixed pack deal. It came under a screwcap this time around which is a bit of a bonus.
It is full bodied, American oak - so plenty of dark fruit upfront and plenty of vanilla on a palate. For that price of $13.75 delivered I reckon it is a bargain.

I believe this is the cheapest price for the wine. I know that it is a Chinese winery and normally I would not be buying it. But I had 2018 and it was pretty good for the price. I am going to split my sixer with a mate.

I liked the First Pick quite a lot more than Grand Pappy, but it is sold out. The Grand Pappy is a little less concentrated and balanced compared to First Pick, but is very decent value at under $40.
