CX Seat selection

Well, yes.

However, I also have a booking in J BKK-HKG-MNL next month, and it's the newer regional config, 1-2-1. Will be interesting to see how that compares. I guess it's because they have more competition on these routes.
Perhaps I should've clarified that I was in J, and the the seats were 1-2-1 (very nice for regional). Beats Qantas hands down (especially the champagne served with a smile).

I'll be in PE later this year on a 777 so let's see how that compares. I note that people here seem to prefer PE on the 350, but from what I see, the seating is more cramped.

We have booked W class YVR-HKG-MEL bc it was 350 with updated seats and 9 inches of recline. Cx has now downgraded both sectors to 77K which means basically a Y class seat (6 inches of recline) with better food. We specifically booked with cx bc of the seat arrangement, but now we may as well be in Y. Not happy Jan….and cx basically saying dry my eyes.
I flew the 77K a couple months ago in premium and can guarantee you it’s NOT economy! :)

Economy is 3-4-3, and PEY is 2-4-2. Much wider given the a350 goes from 9 in Y to 8 in PEY.

The legroom in PEY ON THE 777 is sensational… huge in fact. We didn’t notice any issues with the recline… it was very generous, more than economy.

Never flown CX J before, reading that since 30th March this year, CX161 & CX162 are the new Aria suits (on the 777). However, looking at CX162 dep SYD anytime in Oct & Nov, they use the a350-900. Anyone know why and i assume this isnt the Aria product?

My CX162 in Sep is a 773.

Although next month another trip is currently A359 up and back on CX110 & CX101.

Wondering if anyone knows of a method for obtaining free seat selection - ahead of the 48hr OLCI - on a CX Economy Light fare with no OW status? I think I know the answer, but happy for any suggestions or clever ideas. Cheers!

I'm flying CNS-HKG in January. Have booked Y seats for myself and my sister as a QF CR redemption.

I've been able to select a seat online for free as OW Ruby. However, selection for sister (no status) is marked as 'not available'. I know her seat reservation will likely cost money due to the fare type, but despite being willing to pay, I can't.

CX live chat were unable to help due to 'technical constraints imposed by other airline ticketing', or something along those lines. Haven't yet tried calling.

Any similar past experiences? It'd be nice to secure neighbouring seats well in advance of check-in.

When did you book the Qantas reward? Haven't had any issues with selecting seats from a Qantas reward ticket, but generally you do have to wait like a day or two while it does its ticketing, before you're allowed to choose seats.

Booked Friday night, and received 081 ticket yesterday. I've been able to select a seat for free, but selection still marked 'not available' for the other passenger - can't even view the seat map from her side of things.

Will keep checking, but from further reading online, it sounds like non-status pax have to wait until check-in for seat selection. Absolutely bizarre policy in 2025 if correct.

Did try calling CX earlier, but gave up after nearly an hour on hold 🙃

Hmmm, I see. Haven't seen this issue before. But, regardless, it may be helpful to try their WhatsApp line? At least you dont have to hover over the phone all day.

Are you on seperate bookings?

Actually becoming more common as airlines monetise things like early seat selection for non-status PAX.

This is atleast consistent from CX in Y. No seat selection for non status pax (award or paid) even on the same ticket with status pax. One WP and I’ve called in the past and received a hard no to early seat selection for the no status customer. YMMV

Same booking. We'll be flying BNE-CNS-HKG. Hoping I'll be able to do OLCI at T24 despite the QF-CX connection, so I can at least select a seat once they become open for all.

Wouldn't expect much flexibility on the policy as Silver, but that's rough at WP. Thanks for your OW loyalty!

On the flip side OW status holders have a better seat selection at anytime leading up to departure
