I'm not getting too much joy holding Qantas Platinum level and am wondering how easy it is to request Velocity equivalent?
Have had my chauffeur drive cancelled and no recent success with international upgrades so would like to see if Virgin is any better. Currently Velocity Red.
Who do I contact at Virgin to see if I can fast track to Platinum with them?

Call Velocity.

To be honest all depends on you're flying patterns and $ ticket purchased.
On expensive domestic fares Velocity can be a lot better.

But its International Partners are more limited, and not being part of an alliance can cause issues, and there is no First Lounge or even Business/Emerald lounge.

There seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence that VA aren't status matching currently unless you are part of a targeted group

No idea what the likelihood of a status match is, but it's much easier to get to Platinum BIS with Velocity than with QFF, as (a) you only need 1,000 SCs, (b) family pooling and (c) you still get the same SCs when flying with partners as with VA. It's quite possible to make Velocity Platinum with flying that wouldn't even get you to Gold with QF (depending on individual circumstances obviously). On the flip side though: the eligible segment requirement to get to Platinum with VA is higher (8 compared to 4). Not a big deal in the long run, but that has been the rate limiting step for me to get to Platinum.

On a more general note, just bear in mind that VA does not have domestic Business lounges or anything comparable (in Aus) to the QF First lounges. IMHO the VA Lounges are on a par with, or possibly better than, Qantas Clubs. However, as a QF WP who is presumably used to the QF dom Business lounges, you might find the VA Lounges less than impressive.

Good luck with international upgrades on Virgin unless your destinations are LAX or AUH.
