Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

Having had a few underwhelming experiences in the SYD F lounge, I'm wondering if the MEL lounge might actually be better?

I'll maybe find out in a few weeks time.

The F/P1 beef short rib was one of the better dishes I've had in the lounge in quite some time. Incredibly tender and flavourful.

Is it only exclusive to P1?

Also does anyone able to pull out the Autumn Menu?
It’s for those in First, Chairmans Lounge and P1. You get escorted to the roped off section and get the special menu as well as the normal menu.

Is that black as in burned or black as in some spicy rub?
I had it 3 days ago. It is black because it's burnt. It was so overcooked, what little I was able to fight off the bone, my 70+ jaws could not chew. Waste of time serving a plate of bones and charcoal. The kimchi was nice though but the Koreans would be screaming blue murder to the sacrilege Neil has delivered.

The example posted above isn’t “black” looking on my iPad - it looks nice but yes, there could be a fine line between cooked well and well and truly cooked.

Menu will change soon I guess but thought I’d share these from another SYD visit.

Prawn pad Thai. Very generous, quality prawns. Tasty dish.

Pork belly. Pretty bland but better with the sambal /chilli paste. Meat was very tender and overall the dish was enjoyable as well.

Does the sambal paste have seafood in it? From experience, many do while others do not. And if I have some that does, then I might end up not even getting on my flight in the end 🤢

Looking back at pics of menus it wasn't actually named as sambal - just roast chilli paste - apologies. Didn't taste like it had any fish/prawn flavour, but obviously you'd need to check with staff.

If it's a Chinese style roast chilli paste (e.g. Szechuan), it's not likely to have any seafood in it.

If it's a Thai style or SE Asian style, there's a good chance it has prawn or fish flavours in it (to give an umami taste, rather than actually taste like either of those two seafoods).

In any case, the paste looks like it's on the side in a small dish, rather than placed in the plate or slathered on the meat.

Yep- that’s why I had a jolly good time in Chengdu but struggle in South East Asia. The Chinese usually make it crystal clear if a dish has seafood in it while in South East Asia, “just little prawns” doesn’t seem to be worth the mention.

I know this only too well as I’ve lived in Singapore for many years and spent way too much of my time there kneeling on the floor of my HDB toilet 🤢 o_O

Many thanks- will obviously ask to be safe but roast chili paste sounds more like the Chinese version that will be right down my alley! :)
