Current best option for annual travel insurance

Oops, just noticed you need BC coverage.
Very few policies offer coverage but I believe that AAMI may be an option.

Annual policy with ski extra adds very little overall, but they are expensive if you need just cover for a single trip. I actually need unguided off piste so I am only happy with QBE. Insure4less will do it for an exorbitant price.

As an example, my annual cover including ski is $415.

That's a good price. I used to have QBE insurance and they were fantastic when I injured myself in Japan a few years ago (follow up phone calls from a nurse in Australia and paid all bills including taxis promptly).
If my +1 (over 60) and I got QBE annual worldwide cover including skiing and nil excess the cost is $1542.
Of course it is cheaper if you exclude the US but his age certainly jacks up the price :(.

Any improvement via Ouch! or the entertainment book? They give pretty good discounts.

But I do think I have excluded the USA in my latest policy.

TID has been mentioned ... and I will get the PDS, but does TID cover trips on any rewards points?

EG, I just had a long call with AMEX re their Velocity Plat cc: Cover for reward bookings from VA points only - also OK if transferred over say to SQ. Not covered for say a QF rewards / paid booking.

Go TID....

Most here have gone with TID however You want to hear stories of people with claims otherwise their input is useless.

I've claimed once under TID for a minor item stolen from overhead locker and it was paid promptly at above market value.

Claimed twice, no hassles, all online, would always go for them if I could. Unfortunately i need some very expensive ski insurance so my only option is a $1k annual policy.

Short answer- yes.

Long answer is read the PDS to make sure it is right for you.

That's a bit more comprehensible than the Australia Post one I just looked at (under written by Great Lakes - Munich) ;:

for frequent flyer or similar flight reward pointslost following cancellation of Your airline ticket.
The amount We will pay is calculated as follows:

(i) the cost of the equivalent class airlineticket, based on the best available advancepurchase airfare at the time the claim isprocessed, less Your financial contributiontowards the airline ticket multiplied by
(ii) the total amount of points lost divided by
(iii) the total amount of points used to obtainthe airline ticket.

Have a look at canstar's travel insurance review. Citi Travel insurance gets 5* in some categories and includes snow sports.

I find that the additional fee that QBE and TID charge for snowsports cover make them too expensive these days.

This year I have gone with Good2Go. Decent price, good benefits and the option to remove the excess for only a little more.

NRMA/RACQ/RAA/RACV etc also offer a good discount on annual policies if you are a member and apply online via the membership page.

I renewed with TID, but that was only because I was time constrained. I was very disappointed in TIDs mammoth fee increases and I doubt I'll be doing the same next year. Good insurance is one thing, blatant rip offs are another and TID have crossed the line.

Agree on TID increase. Our annual expires in December. When I queried I was told it was due to falling AUD which actually makes sense when thinking of overseas travel.

I think they are telling porkies as the price has been creeping up over the last 3 years (at a greater rate than other insurers).

Except, why don't we see the same across all insurers and why didn't we see just as huge reduction in premiums back when the AUD strengthened?

Sure. Rather like petrol prices. Will make sure next year I have time to compare.

QBE is $162 or $270 with US, through trace insurance direct. Pretty reasonable imho

Basically it is important to read the fine print every year that you renew.TID was fine for a while but then reduced the number of days for each trip to 30 if for pleasure. That at first wasn't a deal breaker because I could factor a conference or two in and come in under a business trip. Then they redefined business trip so this no longer works.
As our trips are nearly always longer than 30 days we had to find an alternative and at present that is a direct QBE policy. It will probably change. And after 2016 I will be 70 and premiums start going up fast.Hence all our trips in the last few years.

Tell me about it. I renewed with TID in Oct and as I had turned 70 the annual multi fee went to $790, and that was with a 10% discount.

That worried me but TID have just confirmed by chat that leisure trips are still 38 days.

scwappy, what is "trace insurance direct"? This price sounds good, for a single, short trip for a young person? ;) Perhaps if you have a link please ...

Maybe they have changed it but likely I have mixed them up with other policies but as we do 7-8 week trips 38 days is still not suitable for us.
