Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

Which is pointless given infection rates in the US unless they forced people into 14 day quarantine before cruise and tested twice

It is also pointless for anyone that has only just got infected as it takes most likely a few days for someone to be able to generate positive test result.

So sooner or later an infected person will board a ship whether it is a crew member or a passenger. Just "Covid Roulette" whether it is a particular ship or not.

Today SS hosted a webinar about the coming Silver Explorer Kimberley season.
Quintessential SS hype, super appealing and a tug at the heart strings for lovers of the ship.
Ended with a heavy closing sales pitch….. buy today and we will give you 5000000000 whowantsitall as a special bonus.
I am unmoved….
2021 will probably see several ships fighting for slots in the Kimberley , but... there is no way SS will get a cent of my money until I am sure they have not/will not dissolve(d) in bankruptcy and that they will be able to deliver what they promise.
Lovely lovely ship, fantastic crew, I wanna wanna go…..but…...

I also attended the webinar and it was lovely to see the images of the Kimberley, so enticing... For now though I won’t be booking.

We are optimists
We had a 7 day cruise booked out of Barcelona 24/10/20 Yacht Club on MSC Seaview, cancelled 19/8 🙁

Upcoming bookings (chose to board in Southampton as no outbound flights required)
Easter cruise to Rotterdam and Hamburg (flight home required)
July cruise to Norwegian Fjords.

Both are balcony, so we'll see if they go ahead or not.

So RCI and Genting are going to start cruises to nowhere- Singapore to Singapore with no other ports.

The major lines are heavily lobbying in the USA to restart cruising and have come out with their "Covid"plans.Won't tempt me.

But a Federal Court judge in Miami has told Carnival that they will have to satisfy her first before they travel and she wants them to satisfy her that they have complied with their probation requirements from prior environmental offences. This needs to be done 60 days before they commence cruising in USA waters.

And yet another cruise ship with Covid cases.

I dont know how they came up with their rating scale, but here is Conde Nast "Readers Choice Awards" in Cruising.

I'd agree with the River category as Viking does seem to have a great record in that space. The rest? Dominated by US oriented cruisers flashy tourists and not travellers, with a touch of P&O/Cunard for the Brits (I understand UK P&O is excellent and their ships in the Med and Baltics look splendid)

Interesting. Some of these I haven't heard of.
They are Readers Choice Awards, and I recall in the past getting multiple emails from Crystal urging me to vote for them. So perhaps the results just reflect the cruise line that most successfully lobbies their passengers to vote.

I just got a survey from Seabourn about when I was going to be willing to cruise again and would I want to go somewhere where there a number of Covid cases plus many other questions - the answers not for at least 18 months and no way

I also completed that survey last week. I thought the question asking if you would cruise without any port visits indicated that they are considering voyages to 'nowhere'.

With Covid positives spiralling ever higher, this seems a brave strategy

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will allow cruise ships to sail in U.S. waters starting Sunday. But even if they do, passengers won't be waving goodbye from the deck. In fact, the agency hasn't said when they'll be allowed back on board.

That's according to the public health agency's new "Framework for Conditional Sailing Order,"which replaces the eight-month "no sail" order that expires this weekend. Published Friday, it “introduces a phased approach for the safe and responsible resumption for passenger cruises,” the CDC said in a release provided by spokesperson Cate Shockey.

"This 'Framework of Conditional Sailing' lays out a pathway – a phased, deliberate and intentional pathway – toward resuming passenger services but only when it is safe, when [the cruise industry] can assure health and when they are responsible with respects of needs of crew passengers and port communities," Dr. Martin Cetron, director of the CDC's Division of Global Migration and Quarantine, told USA TODAY.

From Conde Nast Magazine =

The U.S. cruise industry has voluntarily suspended operations through the end of the year, in an effort to prepare for a safe return to the high seas amid COVID-19. The new suspension comes just days after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention effectively ended its no-sail order for cruise ships.
