Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

Well you certainly can't discourage some americans from cruising.here is a woman who got covid on a cruise but she still wants to get back on a cruise ship.

And I wonder how RCI's idea of an E-muster will go.
Well, likely she wont get it again so why not?

Why won't she get it again? Many patients do not develop longer term immunity to Covid and there were a couple of reports a short while back of people suspected to already having it a second time. The vaccines one of the labs has developed only showed good effectiveness for 28 days in some patients.

Until the repeat case of covid occurs generally and scientifically established and not just a couple of reports, only then it will be a known issue. Perhaps they didnt recover from the first bout and i have likewise heard of people feeling better for a couple of days/weeks then feeling poorly again for a while. That doesnt mean they have caught it again but not recovered from the first time. The vaccine conferring immunity is also likely to be completely different from having had full blown covid.

Just as much the opposite. It can't be assumed that immunity is permanent. Until it is scientifically established that either a vaccine or an existing case prevents recurrence, it continues to be possible that it can recur.

Flus reoccur and evolve, colds reoccur. Nothing to say so far conclusively either way for Covid-19, but I wouldn't be laying any bets that it doesn't reoccur.

COVID-19 Crew Member Infections Confirmed on Hurtigruten Cruise Ship

Crew members who are employed aboard a Hurtigruten ship tested positive today for COVID-19, according to several newspapers in Norway. Nordlys reports that the crew members work on the Hurtigruten expedition cruise ship, the MS Roald Amundsen, which reportedly recently sailed to Svalbard with around 200 passengers. The Hurtigruten ship is currently located at the dock in Tromsø, Norway after arriving in port this morning. It permiited all of its passengers to do ashore, apparently without notifying anyone that its crew members were infected with COVID-19

Reads like a monumental stuff up with Biblical repercussions for the industry

All 160 crew members on the Roald Amundsen have been quarantined on the ship, while the 177 passengers - all of whom have already disembarked - are being contacted by telephone and are being told to self-isolate, operator Hurtigruten said.

Just imagine trying to find them all…in Melbourne or Sydney or anywhere.

I understand they are balancing cash flow and are cancelling in batches, but they shouldn’t be actively promoting these cruises for new bookings.

It's all about a life or death struggle for corporate survival , morality and ethics don't get a vote.
There are an awful lot of very foolish people happy to give the cruise lines money .
Most regular cruisers have woken up and chased refunds, but there are suckers out there to be fleeced….

I posted this a page or two back ...

Carnival Corporation at the last earning call stated that it was holding $2,900,000,000 (billion) in refunds owed to customers, which it views as liquidity. What a business model! Using other people's money to try and stay afloat . .

Sounds like a Ponzi scheme to me. Pyramid selling even.

Bank balance low, so sell some more cruises so you can give much delayed refunds to previous purchasers who you let down and made false promises to.

Hopefully some analysts will do the sums and publicise when the current outstandings are greater than inflow and bank balance to expose what is happening.

This goes on and on.. but can be summarised as.
We stuffed up, covered up, got caught and now we are very sorry

Yes I got the same email and I most surprised about their cruise dates and Australian and NZ ports of call from October on.
