Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

Spain has announced an indefinite ban on cruise ships entering Spanish ports possibly into 2021.

And the UK Foreign Office has advised all UK citizens to not go cruising.

Incidentally at the same time allowed travel to 59 countries.Though one on the list is Australia.A list is in the above link.

And some think Carnival will emerge stronger from this setback.
CDC has now extended to September 30.

Casually observing the posting of cruisers and cruising websites has certainly opened my eyes to the prevalence of mental illness.

At least an order of magnitude, and more, of delusional thoughts or at least tunnel vision thought patterns than I could have ever imagined.

Thanks for the links. I did note in the first link:

On its website, Carnival clarified that all of the below sailings would be cancelled:

All San Francisco sailings through 2020.

All Carnival Sunrise sailings through and including October 19, 2020.

All Carnival Legend sailings through and including October 30, 2020.

All Carnival Radiance sailings through and including November 1, 2020.

All Carnival Spirit Alaska, Hawaii, & Trans-Pacific sailings through and including October 6, 2020.

All Other Ships sailings through and including September 30, 2020.

Ponant has just completed a 7 day expedition cruise of the French coast line, There is a webinar by a Belgian journalist who was onboard which covers some of the conditions of travel. A negative test required 48 hours pre-embarkation, masks were required, temperature checking prior to entering the dining room, only 2 in the pool at one time. They cruised within a 'bubble' and didn't interact with anyone other than passengers and crew. For this first cruise the ship was at 20% capacity.

Indeed , and my run full postulation assumed we could be open across au by August..

Uncharacteristic optimism on my part perhaps….

They should get marks for trying though , via a bit of publicity...

CDC has banned cruises to/from US ports until 30 Sep 2020.

Industry association has a general voluntary suspension until 15 Sep 2020

I can't really think of anything that would make me get on a cruise ship this year. Not even if they paid me the full fare. I don't care what precautions they say they are taking. In fact the more precautions like masks etc, the worse it sounds as an experience.

YMMV.

Coral E's plan does not mandate masks which is conceptually attractive.
The problem of carriers who are on the cusp of being symptomatic is not addressed 100% in any cruising plan that I have seen.
It only takes on bad egg in the dish…..

The logic of all this evades me.. but a lot of folks are clearly betting on bright future for cruising

If you look at a lot of the reports and social media there is a disturbing percentage of Americans that think Covid is made up and not dangerous. They are itching to get back on to their cruises. Good luck to them but I won't be cruising for a while yet even though I own Carnival shares

All quite amazing..

Carnival Corporation at the last earning call stated that it was holding $2,900,000,000 (billion) in refunds owed to customers, which it views as liquidity. What a business model! Using other people's money to try and stay afloat . .

Princess cruises won't restart until at least December 2020.Except in Australia where they say they are suspended until November 1st.

Their parent Carnival says they don't expect to be back to a full schedule until 2022.

Interestingly that article has a little on an inquiry into cruising inthe Congress in USA.
In early May, Carnival was put under investigation by the U.S. Congress over its handling of outbreaks of COVID-19 on its ships.

The House of Representatives required the company, which owns at least nine ships that experienced outbreaks, including the Diamond Princess and the Grand Princess – to turn over all internal documents pertaining to COVID-19 from Jan. 1 onward.

Interesting to see if they get more on the Ruby Princess than the NSW Inquiry.

But then the world needs to have a plan for crews trapped around the world unable to disembark.Several suicides already.

A couple of articles on the CDC reports on the cruise industry.

Well you certainly can't discourage some americans from cruising.here is a woman who got covid on a cruise but she still wants to get back on a cruise ship.

And I wonder how RCI's idea of an E-muster will go.
