Pity QF, you were looking like getting paid $9,485 for a J seat this morning and I was then going to upgrade him to F.
So in your case, 72,000 points was worth $9,485. That has to be one of the better valuation of QF FF pointys I have seen!

By the way, you would have been too late to upgrade him F. International upgrade waitlists have to be lodged more than 24 hours before scheduled departure.

Glad to hear he scored the upgrade. Next time he should pay the money for J travel. Now where is the next World Cup? Surely 79 is not too old to attend - just make sure he doen't go swimming before breakfast  .

That's over 13¢ per point value.

The introduction of substantial levels of +++ combined with the May '05 devaluation of award points have left such international upgrades as the most effective use of QFF points.

Of course, as a deterrent Qantas have made these wait listable only.

Oh yes, I am owed big time. In addition to the 72K QF points, I burnt 30K AA points on him as well for upgrades LAX/MIA and SJU/MIA/LAX. I'm thinking that I'll get at least get two DCIR26's out of this (for when we want to visit USA next).

Yes, remembered that late last night. By then would have been too late, as you stated. That's why we were also looking at FOX fare of $11,691 (if you're going to spend $9K, you might as well spend another $2K for better service, F&B and bed). Hopefully by now he is winging his way over the Pacific - where can I check whether QF108 departed LAX on-time?

Yes, my mother has agreed that any international flying from now on must be in J. As my points are depleted to the point where I can only afford domestic ODU's; she knows it now pay their own way.

If he's around, he'll be there. But either he'll be flying J or I'll be accompanying him (maybe with my recompensed ticket ). I wouldn't put it past him and his brother-in-law to do something as crazy as drrron's story if they are juiced up.

number of places, eg

QF website link - left 25 minutes late

flightstats.com - due to arrive SYD at 0800 (35 minutes late)

Well, he arrived safely home and visited his doctor and a urologist on Friday. Looks like surgery on Tuesday.

Many thanks to AA for crediting his flights promptly and giving him a bit of a bonus (with thanks to QF for incorrectly advising original fare basis for return LAX/SYD leg):

Just waiting on QF SYD/BNE to post (should be later today).

He's now convinced that without the J, F & J upgrades on the way back, he would have been in more serious discomfort than he was. He has now been told no international Y flights again....

Lindsay, a very generous and thoughful use of points.

I wish someone would say that to me too.......

Me three. What is the name of the doctor?

I know the name of his GP, but not the Urologist. Why Kiwi Flyer wants to know is beyond me :?:

May have something to do with his upcoming trip to Europe in economy. ;)

The value of a letter stating I have to fly first or business for medical reasons cannot be underestimated - especially for someone who travels as much as I do.

Alas, he didn't have the Doctors certificate before he boarded in SJU. I don't know whether you'd want to go through what he did, to get that certificate Kiwi Flyer...

I wouldn't.

A lot happening in the Playground today.

Anybody going to the 1st test at the Gabba? Attending the first day has been an annual thing for me for some years.

Hard to believe it will be the first test since Langer, McGrath, and Warne's retirement.

EDIT to add: Post #87 - umm, that's a bit of an omen!!

I've managed to score a few Vendor tickets over the years - wouldn't really pay for it though. Time will tell if I'm important enough or not to get a ticket this year :)
