Has anyone had any experience trying to credit an AA flight to QF after applying an AAdvantage Systemwide Upgrade?

Technically, it's prohibited:
  • You cannot accrue partner airline miles with your partner frequent flyer number if you have already used your AAdvantage® number to obtain AAdvantage® program benefits such as First or Business Class upgrades, baggage fee waivers or complimentary access to Preferred/Main Cabin Extra seats. Additionally, you cannot redeem partner airline miles with your partner frequent flyer number and obtain AAdvantage® program benefits such as priority boarding and access to preferred seats.

Thanks!! Very good to know!!

AA's Sabre locks out the ability to change the FF number when:

1. you get a complimentary upgrade cleared into R class on domestic/short haul
2. you get a systemwide upgrade cleared into C/A classes at the airport

Despite that locking, you can still credit it to another FFP but you need to have booked via a travel agent who knows how to change it despite the locking.

If your systemwide upgrade clears before airport control AND the ticket has been reissued before airport control takes place, then you can just change FFP that you're crediting to, beforehand. It credits correctly to the partner FFP as the original pre-upgrade class. AA may refuse to do it though, so your best avenue is having booked it via a travel agent in the first place as they will be able to change it still.

Thanks for this. Very interesting. Though I must admit I thought (obviously incorrectly) that you could only use Systemwide Updates if you had actually purchased the ticket from AA.

No, not true .... at least in the past I was able to upgrade LONE4 081- segments on AA using gifted SWU's.

(Of course, gifting is a whole different story.)

No, you can use it on all AA marketed and operated segments, irrespective of where the ticket came from and that includes on tickets not issued by AA.
