Credit card options for retirees

I still have my mortgage..

so do we
OT but interesting.. a while back we borrowed to buy some realestate and quickly paid it down.
Turns out the Bank is quite happy to hold the loan on a 0 balance indefinitely for zilch fees and we can redraw it anytime we want.
Seems a really odd feature from a bank, given their well earned reputation but not complaining...

@RooFlyer " What evidence of income do they require? Is there any wriggle room for unconventional or irregularly spaced income (ie not a regular pension)?"

Mine was fairly straightforward: superannuation and dividends. There was nowhere to add bank interest, only term deposit interest, so I left that out because I did not want to get into a discussion. Sorry, I only really remember the parts that were relevant to my application.

The good thing was that it provisionally accepted my application as soon as I submitted it - so after that it was only the evidence needed to be sent

Has anyone tried to get a new AMEX lately?

I just applied for a QBR card because my existing QF Biz card is being retired (no pun intended) - it was quite straight forward. Just provided an inductive company revenue amount and personal income (total pre tax).

I suspect if I was applying for a personal AMEX, it would be just as easy?

<Appreciate I'm replying to an old post>

I still have my mortgage, 8 years after retiring - all $4K of it. In fact I recently tried to extend it, when I found that it reaches its full term in two years. I have a large redraw amount in there, which I like to keep in case of big emergency. No dice. I'd have to essentially re-establish the loan (CBA). And over the next two years, they will absorb my redraw funds - as they don't want a very large final repayment!

When I moved a few years ago, it was going to cost so much to set up a mortgage that I decided it was easier just to close off the old one. It would be nice to have the option to redraw but it’s not going to happen

After flicking my NAB Qantas card because of the exorbitant yearly fee and reduction in points to miserly numbers - very happy to say that as a retiree I have just been approved for the Qantas Money Platinum card. 😊
They are up front on the website and say minimal income needed is $36,000 per year.
At the moment it is also 40,000 points bonus if you spend $5,000 within the first 3 months (80,000 if you havent had a Qantas points card in the previous couple of years)
And 1 point per dollar up to 10,000 per month. Not sure if there are any changes with these rates after Oct 1.
That’s great news @Sale
