Credit card Foreign exchange charges

Thanks for reminding me - here's a recent purchase of some NZ duty free using a WestPac card:So, a net cost of $94.85 of which I'll only earn points on $91.64.

Interesting, which Westpac card charges a 3.5% fee on foreign transactions? I thought they were all 3%.

Edit: Answreing myself - must be one of the plat amex cards.

Certainly is - Earth; might be borderline for points value for some ... but for me with JASA on some international routes getting a point value upwards of 10¢ per point the more the merrier.

I only use my 28º for overseas cash.

All Amex companion cards (Altitude, Earth, Krisflyer) have a 3.5% foreign exchange fee. Breakdown is 1.5% charged by Amex and 2.0% by Westpac. There are two exceptions - Altitude & Altitude Gold Amex cards, which have a 3% fee (1.5% Amex + 1.5% Westpac).

All other Westpac cards (both credit and debit) have a 3% fee (1% Mastercard/Visa + 2.0% Westpac).

Bankwest Platinum didn't get a mention on this thread (although it has on other AFF threads). You can get points for purchases OS, insurance, etc., and if you cough up the extra fee, it gets converted to QFF ($190 odd). I was wondering if there was something similar that earns Velocity? Can't see anything in searches - other than 28 degrees and Bankwest Platinum

I have used the 28 Degree Card for cash withdrawals now for several years and routinely check the conversion rate against the interbank rate on the forex websites. Usually within ±0.2% and the worst ever has been +0.42%. Very often I get -'ve, i.e. better than the interbank rate.
