In a couple of weeks I'm giving a talk at a conference about flying around the world. I want to create a route map for an upcoming oneworld explorer. Can anyone point me at an app I can use to illustrate the route I want to take. In the ideal world I would love to be able to create some kind of simple animation to highlight say the six flights within the USA. But given that is a big ask I will happily settle for something I can use just to illustrate the connecting flights.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Whilst not animated, Great Circle Mapper might give you what you want.

For a quite basic route map, it's hard to go past GCM as highlighted by JessicaTam. Lots of options you can change, but they aren't well documented and either require picking the presets or some considerable trial and error.

I found these sites just by Googling "create animated route map". It might be closer to something you want, though I don't know if any of the tools do nice great circles like GCM, if that is your thing for presentation purposes. Note that I haven't tested these tools.

Last option I can think of is creating a Tour on Google Earth.

I think most of the bloggers with the fancy graphics are using apples imovie

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

When oneworld had a downloadable planning tool (before the online booking site was created), it could generate a map with the different continents colour coded. Sadly, that's long gone.

I've always used gcmap.

Great Circle Mapper (This trip had been booked as -NRT-MEL-, but QF cancelled the route a few weeks out from departure (after ticketing), so was rerouted via SYD and onto a 17 sector paper ticket. During the trip, after travel warnings for Bangkok due to political issues and rioting, the planned -LHR-BKK-SIN was changed and remaining flights reissued to e-ticket)

Here are two maps that I created with GCM for a trip report. Took me ages to tweak and work the settings out, and again I'm not sure what high standards of presentation you'd like for your presentation.

Lots of these kinds of map generation tricks can be garnered by looking at the featured maps on the GCM website.
