I've got an excursion to Sydney planned next year on a long weekend and I'm just having a look at hotels now. Being a bit of a bargain hunter, but also not wanting to miss out or end up paying more because it could be a busy weekend in Sydney (Mardi Gra weekend), I'm looking at a bit of a trick with hotel bookings.
What I was planning on doing was booking the hotel now through QF bookings, so that I've got a room for sure and I'm all set, then, waiting till closer to the date and seeing if the rooms at the place I want show up cheaper on Wotif when they start to appear there. If they do, call up QF Hotels and cancel (putting up with the 'admin' fees), book through Wotif and end up with the extra cash in my pocket. If it's not any cheaper on Wotif, or only a bit cheaper, then just leave things alone.
I've checked the cancellation policy for this hotel on QF's site and it says "If you cancel within 48 hours of check-in a cancellation penalty of the cost of 1 night applies per room booked." Since I'd be doing it a few weeks before check in, that doesn't seem to be a problem.
I've got a couple of questions for people that might have used QF Hotels before:
1. Is this likely to work out ok? Any obvious problems?
2. How long do QF refunds take?
3. Can they refund back to a different card than the one you paid with?
