Thought this may be easiest to throw to the experts.

Based in BNE, I have to head to Darwin next May. Was thinking of linking in some holiday onto the work component.

I plan to head to Paris for about a week for another commitment, so want to fit in basically:

Travel to DRW on the Wednesday and have work until saturday or sunday (unclear at this stage), be in Paris by the Friday of the following week, and back in BNE by the Saturday following that.

mrsdoc is talking of heading to port douglas whilst i'm in DRW and me heading across from DRW to join her on the sunday, and then she'll head back to BNE on say the wednesday, when I would head to CDG.

What's going to be the best way to link all this travel.

Option 1.
BNE-DRW-CNS-BNE then BNE-CDG-BNE (interim stops tba)

Option 2.
BNE-DRW-CNS-??? - CDG-BNE

Is there a fare product with oneworld that will allow these stopovers? I suppose a xONE out of DRW might work with a one way ticket to DRW (can I stopover in CNS on the way to BNE and then say SIN ie. DRW-CNS, CNS-BNE-SIN-LHR-CDG, CDG-LHR-SIN-BNE for example?).

For what it's worth, I dont really fancy a Y seat in JQ from DRW-SIN although yes I realise this might be easier!

Can I do : JQ (would only do *class) CNS-Japan then Japan-LHR (on BA??)

Open to suggestions?? In the meantime i'm still playing with the oneworld online tool but it's really only RTW useful (otherwise it just gives you a list of booking contacts).

Will xONEs allow travel to/from EU via asia? or will i be forced into a US diversion (or is it a GLOB i'm after).

I would use the DRW-SIN on JQ with no hesitation ; just pay the extra for an exit row seat and the flight is pretty decent and is only 4.5 hours

Dave

Which wont fit if mrsdoc insists I come to Port Douglas (CNS) with her.:shock:

Fair point about JQ with exit row (extra leg room) - might be an option.

So follwoing Dave's suggestion, we have two potentials:

I need the following:

1. Will keep mrsdoc happy:
BNE-DRW-CNS-BNE-SIN-LHR-CDG-LHR-CDG-SIN-BNE (happy to swap SIN for BKK or HKG)

2. BNE-DRW-SIN-(LHR)-CDG-LHR-xx_-BNE

I'm happy to avoid LHR on one direction if it works better. I suppose CX ex-CDG to HKG?

Another factor is the person i'm travelling with is ex-MEL and it would be easiest to meet in SIN.

If having to go back to CNS, I would still take JQ to SIN if possible; backtracking to BNE adds 1500 miles to the journey with the joy of domestic - international train journey at BNE. Going CNS-SIN via DRW is 1500 miles shorter and the connection at DRW is trivially easy

Also, unlike QF, JQ is currently only charging $20 extra for the exit row seat on that route, so for $50 you can get fed on the 2 flights and have decent seating

Dave

Does that leave me with a SIN-LON-SIN ticket and then a one way SIN-BNE though?

SIN-LON r/t plus SIN-BNE ow might not be too bad a price

There are some good fare for the SIN-LON r/t and for SIN-BNE o/w

from SGD1057 SIN-LHR r/t if flexible on carrier ( e.g. QR with 1 stop )
from SGD1621 on QF

from SGD372 for SIn-BNE on JQ ( though do add the $20 for an exit)
from SGD650 for QF

Adding AUD400 for CNS-SIN, so can do the trip from $1517 ish on JQ/QR/JQ
from $2176 to use JQ/QF/QF

Dave

Thanks Dave.

I'm still open to other suggestions but Dave seems to have it planned for me! I'll start waiting for sales and book if i see anything decent (maybe i'll wait to the new year to book though).

Also do consider that you may be able to book a non-stop to CDG from SIN using QF code share on the AF service and avoid having to connect in LHR

I would also consider taking Eurostar from Paris to London if stopping in London. 2hrs 20 from Central Paris to Central London which is quicker than heading out to CDG , flying across the channel and then heading in from LHR/LGW/LCY

I'd agree with that, and it's exactly what I'm doing in a few weeks

Less SCs that way!

True, will consider that. Might try LCY for a change (friends arent far from there).

Would probably into LHR on QF, stay with friends in London, then either LCY-CDG or Eurostar.

Coming home again either via LON to see friends, or just CX via HKG i'd say. AF via SIN might be a good option on the way home, would need a suitablly priced open jaw.
