Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

I think the 2nd flight is the second sector to XCH??. I have not heard of another one being planned from WUH

I don’t think they are overnighting in LEA/DRW.

The flights from LEA to CI are smaller planes because 747 can't land on CI.

I think they are RAAF planes.

So no implications of the QF crew being out of flying hours to get to CI

Correct the 747 only goes as far as the first Australian port then I believe the RAAF takes over for LEA/DRW-XCH

I believe VH-OEE will be deep cleaned after this - will be the cleanest jet in the fleet (for a few days at least)

Sounds like a hellva flight out. Reports of many hours to check in and the formalities (I heard 7 hours), and then on the tarmac for 7 hours. Those poor young kids.

Good use of our taxes for evacuation flights to The Island, though. There may have always been a plan for a second flight. Who knows. We just don’t get told by those ‘who know better’’ 🤔

There may also be issues with actually getting out? Six-hour delay, apparently, just for this lot. 😳

Edit: (This is apolitical) Taxpayer dollars are squandered by Governments of both persuasions, one way or another, but at least this effort has a humanitarian benefit

SMH article mentioned that there may be a second evacuation flight but it is not a certainty yet.

An American on Cruise Critic just posted they were denied boarding in Singapore yesterday for a Celebrity cruise simply because they had to transit for an hour in Hong Kong the day before. They were on the same plane both in and out of Hong Kong, same seat, but they’d had to exit for security in HK and then reboard.

Somehow I can't imagine the Chinese govt being overly receptive to this. Reading between the lines Aust govt had to do a lot of work to make this happen (the cynical part of me also thinks that China extracted other benefits for allowing the flight)

I think - 270 evacuees, plus medical staff plus government officials. In addition the top deck was roped off for crew only - no passengers allowed upstairs.
270 evacuees fit exactly the number of Y cabin seats on the QF 747.
Presumably the officials, medics will be in downstairs J/W?.

Instead of the crew doing an "OnQ" snack round, they will just come round from time to time offering a squirt of an alcohol handrub.

And they will have "customer feedback" saying the snack round was not necessary and the alcoholic hand rub was a better idea.

ABC report comments the cabin crew of QF6032 are parked on the upper deck most of the flight, suggesting nil by mouth for the pax. Is AJ missing the opportunity to spin this as a test flight for ‘enhanced’ service?

cheers skip

FYI: The passengers were all supplied boxed meals and bottled water on their seats before they boarded

I did read that all the meals and drinks were on the seats at boarding. That masks are to be replaced hourly.

The ABC report actually states that the crew will be on a 'sealed' upper deck... Tears, nervousness as Australians endure long wait to take off from Wuhan :

They will spend most of the flight sealed on an upper deck.
I wonder if this means deploying the smoke barrier to provide an additional protection? (the smoke barrier has the effect of completely covering the top of the stairway to seal the upper deck and protect the flightdeck).

Some would say the cabin crew are good at that anyway - feed the chooks and turn off the lights"

Q: During a flight, how many cabin crew need to be in the cabin when seatbelt signs are off. And when the seatbelt signs are on?
