Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

I see it as a humanitarian repatriation. A desperate situation for many to be in I would think.

Add a penny to the taxes.

My personal view is that human compassion never goes astray. Also it's not their fault they got caught up in this.

I agree, but I also agree that CI is the best solution.

If things get worse there will come a time when everyone will believe the greater good is a priority.

SARS / MERS - I can't recall restrictions being enforced to this level - is this correct?

No because the numbers infected were relatively low. And China were accused of covering up SARS until it was several months down the track by which time it had peaked.
This one is really infectious but lower mortality. But overall mortality can be higher due the thesheer volume.

SARS 8000 infected mortality 800. mortality about 10%
MERS 2500 infected, 850 deaths mortality in excess of 30%

Thought so. Been awhile but I'm pretty confident I travelled to Hong kong and China during SARS, and have zero recollection of MERS.

No doubt the GOVs around the world are reacting very differently to this one.... I'm not that old, but I can't recall World Wide restrictions and quarantining like this.

but I can't recall World Wide restrictions and quarantining like this.

Previously quarantine have been reserved for immigrants coming into a country or as a public health measure against some communicable diseases like the plague and cholera outbreaks on ships. In more recent times Cruise ships have been the subject of several quarantines. Most recent one was a Church of Scientology ship for a measles outbreak onboard.

The US have a list of quarantinable diseases:
Cholera
Diptheria
Infectious TB
Plague
Smallpox
Yellow fever
hemorrhagic fevers
SARS

So nothing World Wide like this one?

Wuhan airport was showing on FR24 a few minutes ago (about 2030 AEDT 30 Jan) as having teh highest delays worldwide of any airport.

I thought the airport was closed to all but the odd flight bringing in mainland Chinese medical personnel, and evacuation flights (if approved by Chinese govt) of foreign governments, plus Chinese politicians' flights. Unless it has a severe weather problem, how could it have the most delays 'worldwide' if so few carriers are operating?

As to Repatriation you do all know that Morrison and Ardern have ben talking to each other for a few days now about co operating on this matter.A news item was shown where Morrison rang when Ardern was giving a press conference and didn't answer.

Second China really doesn't like Australia at present and so hasn't given the clearance to the Australian government. The infiltration by the Chinese into the NZ economy has been greater so they usually bend to the Chinese wishes.hence no surprise that the Chinese will let the Kiwis get the credit.

Not that I can recall.
I think this would be the largest quarantine/ lockdown as it affects many countries.

Interestingly outside of China the we are not seeing infection rates like inside China:

Is that volume or %age. %age would be easily explainable, 3 flights a day, 2 delayed. Otherwise very strange 🤔

Edit - There are heaps of flights Wuhan Airport (WUH) Departures - Today . I also thought they were supposed to be in lockdoen

So if you were asked to crew the evacuation flight, would you?
Asking for a friend ...
No, really.

The WHO meeting in a few hours time might be a telling factor. Relatively low infection rates outside China may indicate that the current quasi lockdown tgat is occurring is working.
