Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

Hub said the fuel cans might because of generator purchases.

I wonder if there are people out there reading this and going, "Do I need a generator? Lets go buy one!"

Went for a walk to post office in the adjoining suburb. There is a small row of shops on the way;
Cafe - closed
Hair / nail salon - closed
Antique shop - OPEN

WTF? Silly me - obviously antique shop is essential service. Actually social distancing is really easy there as I have never seen a customer in that shop.

Thanks for reminding me.

Hubby just got a call that his guitar is ready for pickup, it was having some work done on it

Planning to pick up, bring home, clean it ect is like a military operation. Told him we need to leave it for about a week in unused room.

Guitar shop isnt allowing people inside. Drive to rear, they put in the back of car (ute in our case).

I normally keep about 40l of petrol and 100l of diesel for the farm toys.
As a chronic prepper , I pondered stocking up more fuel to run the gensets for extended periods.
My call on the risk atm is that we will muddle though with little real disruption.
I do note that Bunnings in NZ is closed to retail.. not sure how I will cope with that when it comes a visiting

Gloves still available up here.

Haven't been able to get them at local supermarkets for 2-3 weeks. I ordered some online from a supplier in NSW a week ago, not yet delivered, 2 days late on estimated delivery date.

My local Woollies has done this for the self-checkouts as well.
All Woolworths stores are meant to have closed off middle self serve and alternating express checkouts. They are also meant to open odd numbers full lanes and only open the paired even numbered lanes once all odd numbered are open, only using the even numbers for the shortest time possible.
There are lines tapped on the floor at the checkouts and deli/seafood/meat service counters where people are meant to stand.
At least 1.5m between people waiting for service and operating checkouts. At least 2m between floor displays. (store managers had to measure it all out yesterday).

The next likely step would be to limit the amount of customers in the store at a time.

I am just wondering what my hair will look like in a few months time.

In the past Ive gone 2 years without a haircut, it just gets longer (so a few more inches to braid or twist inot a bun). Im lucky that having superthick hair I dont get split ends. But now that Im older I am dreading seeing grey at my temples (the only grey bits I have) and having never coloured my own hair I might need to learn how - or just switch off video of all my work VC meetings.

Another friend said she is going to start wrapping her hair in a scarf - suspecvt that might be popular too.

They need to fix the number of times you have to touch the screen at the self checkouts too. I've started using a clean tissue as a shield any time I have to touch anything that others have touched.
Claire and Robert (Director of Supermarkets and Directors of Stores - Claire reports to Brad, Rob reports to Claire) had a video comm yesterday. One point was they were looking into getting "screen pens".

Well we bought a packet of the cheap disposable gloves in Woolies on friday last. Not only the regular display but more at the shelves at the end of the aisle.

pharmac_ had ample stock on Monday but today only 3 boxes left.

Picked up my plaquenil.Only 1 person let in at a time.Chairs outside spaced at 1.5 metres but everyone stood in between. o_O

How is it different, touching a screen or touching pens?

BYO pens? Hubby has about 100 Pullman pens with thingy on the end for screen.

I swear I used to have dozens of those touch pens but now none... Have a few common touch screens at the office but lucky that one has a cleaning mode at least, to wipe down with an antibacterial...

I always said I could never be a Bunnings employee. Coldest place in the country in winter and hottest in summer plus dealing with the masses. Its a tough job but if you meet them at expos/training, they are generally very proud of being Red Shirts and enjoy their jobs and want to be knowledgeable to server the customer better.

I couldnt do it, same with Coles ect. I just dont have what it takes

Pretty much the opposite of B&Q or Homebase here..... they wouldn't know a hammer from a nail!

As someone who works remotely a lot (pretty much if I'm not on a client site delivering) we use teleconferencing a lot. Never had any desire to use VC....... not going to start now! A lot of people are talking about doing VC since WFH but I wonder if actually that's 1/10 rather than 8/10 as teleconference has been the defacto standard for some time.

One of the organisations I work with has started rolling them out to people, it's so that it's easier to virtual whiteboard in conference calls.
