Contact Centre mistake on award taxes and surcharges

I cannot fathom what this world has come to that when a company makes a mistake like that, its a clear mistake, with no doubt and plenty of evidence, that them rectifying their mistake is seen or labelled as a "gesture of good will"

so if I go to a restaurant and clearly order a medium rare steak and I get a fish of the day, if the staff said as a gesture of good will they will get me a steak, I would walk out without paying the bill
The gesture of goodwill was that they refunded me EVERYTHING for there mistake. Ie i didnt pay the extra taxes that they incorrectly didnt advise me of such, I got to keep the changed flights, and i initially was charged 5000 points each change fee which they refunded too

In this instance I believe the Qantas call centre rectified there problem accordingly and I was satisfied
 
Thanks again for all the advice - I called again and they refused to do anything (again). Thankfully I found some SQ J awards on a similar route/day so got Qantas to cancel the ticket (they waived the cancel fees). Overall I'm still 5k points in the hole from the initial change fee but I have given up on that one.

The kicker - the SQ taxes total AUD$115 compared to the $1100 I'm being refunded from QF so even after a couple of extra nights accommodation I'm still better off (and I get a longer holiday too!)

The QF ridiculously high carrier charges is the reason I changed programs after 20 years of loyalty
 
Excuse my ignorance but I’m guessing you already had points for the Singapore Airlines flights ie you didn’t somehow convert the QFF points to book with Singapore Airlines

correct. you cannot convert QF points to Singapore, or use them to get flights on Singapore.
 
When I added more flights to my oneworld award (2x BA and 1x CX) I got told I was due for a refund in taxes. As much as I wanted to go ahead with that (but didn't want dramas with the award) I said to her "I just added 3 flights, I don't think I should be getting a refund"

She recalculated it and came back with an extra $90 on what I paid. From looking at the wiki I should of been charged $200 USD for the BA flights and 40USD for the CX flight.

Got a call back about 20 minutes afterwards saying they need to charge me another ~$10 for a USA tax.

All has been ticketed, so i'm not complaining.

I know you can book a QF flight to Singapore, BUT how do you convert Qantas FF to Singapore points?
The post by @MEL_Traveller was a shorthand reply to @roomer and could be rewritten as:
"Correct, you cannot convert QF points to KrisFlyer Miles nor use them to book award flights on Singapore Airlines."

So, @fitzy cancelled a Qantas Frequent Flyer award. They then booked for "a similar route/day" on Singapore airlines using KrisFlyer miles.

This is the modern Qantas. All care, no responsibility or accountability. They stuff you around every which way and it’s ‘not our problem’. You miss check in by one minute because of a pile up on the motorway, sorry sir.... that’ll be $800 for a new ticket.

I detest what that airline has become. I was a mixture of gold and platinum for 16 years and have lifetime gold. I haven’t set foot on a Qantas longhaul flight in three years and don’t intend to. Pretty much every other airline offers more direct routes and more competitive fares without the attitude and drama of flying Qantas.
