Consensus on points compo for failed IFE

Would you be ok with receiving the same compensation in J for a seat that won't recline as in Y?

To be fair, that is different as the seat that won't recline in Y, only does so a very small fraction anyway, while the seat that won't recline in J usually goes flat. If you were to say, compare a Y to J seat recline that was the same, but the J seat was bigger and had extra padding, that would be the same scenario as the IFE – as the benefit is virtually the same.

Was the flight really full or they just didn't want to move you to J?
Doubt I would ever get it but I would be expecting an upgrade from Y to Y+ on my next flight. 20,000 points ($200) would surely be the minimum but again good luck trying to get more.

Eleven years ago I was on a flight from LAX - SYD in J where the plane's IFE went belly up. I wasn't offered anything from Qantas immediately afterwards but when I complained several days later (as did several colleagues) I received a $400 credit voucher.

Another colleague received a $250 voucher for use at the Boathouse Restaurant so it seemed Qantas tailored their offers to what you were worth to them (I was platinum at the time).

10k is the standard. That’s what I was given once when IFE failed on SYD-BKK flight, also as P1.

You can send further feedback and they may or may not send you a nice bottle of champagne ;)

As a P1 are points REALLY what you're seeking? Most P1's would be, I presume, points rich... is there perhaps something else you'd be seeking rather than points?

I personally think 10K is "reasonable" and I agree with the other earlier poster that having accepted the offered voucher on board is an acceptance of compensation there and then... and from the point of view of the CSM/onboard crew having these things there to give shows a certain level of practive response (or at least it suggests IFE issues are common enough to have these vouchers on board in the first place?)

Speaking only for myself, I never feel points rich, even at 1M+ because just a couple F burns to LHR can bring me down to poverty ;)
AFAIK most FFs are always after points and SCs. No chance to get the latter in this case so maximum points would the best compensation IMO.

at least you got something.
I did syd to DFW with no reclining chair! Would not move me as travelling with child and no spare seats available. No offer of points or anything! You try sitting up for 17+ Hrs :confused::mad::(

I ended up moving over into my 4 year olds seat, and reclined that way with him laying on top of me!!! o_O

This is NOT OK! Did you send feedback to QF about that? You should receive massive compensation for non-reclining seat on such long haul flight.

I would reckon a non reclining seat on a flight like that is a far bigger deal than IFE...... that's horrrendous

I got 5000 points for a pre-ordered meal not being available. I suggest non-operational IFE is worth 20-30K in relative terms (if not more !).

No I didnt. I was in america for just over 4 weeks, so I didnt have an opportunity over there to put a complaint in - or to call - calling back to australia and being put on hold... no thanks for $$$$ in that phone call, and by the time i got back to australia I thought it would of been too late by then to even bother. The flight attendent didnt give a cough... they had a full flight.. mind u same flight attendant I saw later mixing drinks with his fingers.. YES, you read right.... his Fingers!!!

btw how do u even put in a complaint with them?

This is the reality - it is difficult. As a P1 i earn many points, but as per Boomy, they are so easy to burn also :)

As far as "accepting" the compensation, NO. The cards were thrust at me before getting off the plane. At no time did I ever discuss compensation.

In any case, I flicked an email off to the P1 team - explaining that the flight was a let down, but that also the crew and specifically the CSM were great. And that an offer of 10k points was not exactly inspiring to me. They replied they would forward the email to the "Executive Relations' team. i am not sure what that new beast is??

And you were to take it, sit down and shut up or you'd be removed from the aircraft for posing a security threat to everyone on board.
Well, they did offer me a extra sundae... Have you seen their dessert buffet on Delta One? AMAZING!

You should still complain as compensation is almost certainly in order. I probably would leave out the bit about the flight attendant mixing drinks with his fingers though - just keep it short and to-the-point.

You can submit feedback to Customer Care using this link: Customer-care-feedback-form
Or just send Qantas a message on Facebook.

And why would this even matter?

Well I don't use IFE and wouldn't ask for compensation if it wasn't working. Indeed I have previously been asked to change flights (QF HKG-BNE-MEL in J) because IFE wasn't working in a seat and said that I didn't use it and would happily take the seat without IFE.

However, if it was a day flight and there was no seat power then I would be aggrieved.
