Hi all,

Looking to book a flight out for someone from the US. Will need a connection to LA or DFW. When I look on AA there's a message which says you'll need to recheck luggage between the connecting flight.

Specifically it states:

Change of plane required.
The cost of travel between airports is not included in your fare and you will be required to re-check-in your luggage.
Time between flights: 2h35min.

In this case it's between terminals at LAX, does this mean when she checks in at the original airport they will only get her to her final US destination and not Australia? Or is it simply the security screening of picking up your bag and dropping it off at the transfer desk?

Ive always flown qantas on the route and had my bags tagged the whole way through.

Thanks

Is this lax change of terminal a dom->int, int->dom, dom->dom or init->int connection?

hey serfty,

it's a connection - domestic flying to LAX then LAX onwards to international destination. (and then vice versa on the way back)

yep. terminal 4 to terminal B which i assume it part of TBIT.

i did what i think are the same connections to meet QF108 at LAX last month. all it involved was a bus trip straight from T4 airside so no need for security checking etc, although now that i know this i think i'd prefer to stay in T4 a bit longer - at least there's more than 1 food option there, albeit chillis vs BK (as well as the A/C that i don't have access to)

the thing that's got me stumped is the need to re check in luggage.

No need to recheck luggage T4 to TBIT - it should be checked through from the origin.

As for hanging in T4, it's not a bad idea. A tip though - with the TBIT 'west' development, the airside transfer bus takes ages and deposits passengers at the far North end of TBIT - it's a 15 minute oddessy back to the lounge from there. Last time I walked landside, walked the 100 metres to TBIT and re-cleared security there.

However, on the return, on arrival at TBIT you clear immigration, collect luggage, clear customs then after that there's a luggage redeposit area (still in TBIT). Then the PAX is landside and needs to walk to T4 (about 100 metres) before re-clearing security and catching thier AA flight onwards.
