Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Does anyone know if it is possible to book the standard ASA (not at Classic rates) and then subsequently change the FF number to earn credit in AAdvantage?

QF flights booked in U class will not earning anything on AA.

I think the OP was referring to classes other than U, however the answer to that has never been reported here (discussed several times) due to the relatively high points cost and risk of getting nothing out of it...

Yes, I mean the fares when you click "View in Points", or Points + Pay. Waiting to see what happens with AAdvantage post-merger with US Airways. Given that QF flights count towards AA status challenges, wondering if I can use my remaining QFF points for a flight to count towards that.

Of course, AA and US management could well be studying QF's continuing 'enhancements' and enhance the value of their program once merged.

IMO using your points on points plus pay might be a bit of a waste. Perhaps better off going to the US for a status run.

Qantas moving the cheap ASAs from the website subtly and making you ring up is obviously purely about phasing it out. When pushed Red Roo is simply not responding to the accusations that it will be phased out shortly. I guess that's at least not quite as bad as when Red Roo tried to deny they were being removed at all initially.

Obviously QF have had a few complaints, I wrote an email complaint and received a template response saying the "ASAs were still available by phone", not really addressing my complaint. Frustrating that slowly but surely the benefits of the QFF program are being eroded.

Pretty simple, if it wasn't going to be phased out completely...Red Roo would have come out and said so already. Why do we bother with loyalty again?

With the soon to be removed ASA's, whats a QFF point worth going forward...? Is it declining like the AUD$...?

I sent in 'feedback' via the form, simply quoting the template response previously posted here and asking if they have anything meaningful to add.

Got a phone call a few days later. Bit strange, really. Person was obviously well skilled in disarming people; agreed with everything I said. Empathy all over the place.

She postulated that the ASA 'review' might actually result in them getting better

I wasn't any the wiser about MASAs etc, and Qantas didn't hear anything they hadn't heard before. It was a 10 minute call, which was nice, but a bit pointless, other than to try to sooth a disgruntled former customer. (So I don't mind QF joining the dots.)

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

For me, the crux of the issue is that classic award fares are almost worthless. The difference between purchasing the fare and redeeming points for a classic award grows smaller and smaller. Purchasing the fare means you don't have all the limitations of the classic award and can actually earn Points and SCs also.

With the removal of the cheap ASA suddenly I don't have anything to do with my points other than request upgrades. Basically, I've lost the last major thing tying my loyalty to QF.

Oh so VA offer SC and points on reward flights ?

My only issue with QF is that high $ of taxes on classic seats, if they lowered that a little I'd be very happy

You're just reinforcing my point. The classic award is almost useless with QF due to the taxes. The ASA was the one way to get value out of your points. With VA, you can with their regular reward fares because the taxes are lower.

I keep hearing this one and its tripe. The MASA is why many of us are loyal. Take it away and we just take the cheapest flight. End of story!!!

I am sure you'll enjoy Tiger and it's extensive network and the access to lounges

+1.

Not to mention TT's airworthiness, safety and reliability.

A good question...

Qantas Pesos are becoming easier and easier to get, but less and less valuable. This has been a trend for a while.

As others have postulated, assuming MASA goes, there are still some "good" value awards to be had (RTWs, upgrades, & premium cabin "classics" jump to mind).

My advice is simple, if you have QF pesos to burn, look at booking a MASA ASAP... It's not that hard. I don't have a crystal ball, but from what this thread and others have taught us, I suspect MASA won't last, at least in it's current format (no matter how much we all complain).

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Indeed, things change and that's life

If VA brings back awards that earn SC and points then maybe QF will as well

MASA's will be gone in 2 or so months, there was a reason they were not put into the new website/system/whatever as management said the future of them was unclear. Asking RedRoo again and again and again is not going to change anything. Is he senior management ? NO and as I just said MASA's will be having another review in about 2 months for phase B of the website.

The cost of providing MASA's has now increased, phone calls on a separate trackable phone number which is now 24 hours. I suspect it went to 24 hours because they want people to call outside of peak periods (USA/Australia) But all this time spent on the phone is a cost and a big cost as the call centres are in Australia.....

QF will look at the cost and the no doubt reduced number of MASA's booked and go they are not worth providing and take them away

I have said it before, but QF should have left them but simply removed availability of them, they were usually available on flight each and every day.

Qantas seems to have such a knack for upsetting customers that I wouldn't be surprised if they have a Disarm and Emphathise division.

Yes and it appears that a few are posting in this thread.

No I wouldn't fly tiger, but VA wants our companies business. We all know senior execs have company credit cards pointing their way. Reduce the value of points and business decisions are made.

Surely a company executive would have the smarts to realise that Qantas have made their business decision.
