Complimentary Lounge Invitations - Flying with Children

Yes, I know, but have read old posts, where members have said they have let kids in without passes
I think that was predominantly in pre-Covid times, when the staff had more discretion.

They have previously let Big John Jnr in without a pass, but that was also a while ago.

I think it still happens regularly. I’m not sure the staff know all the complex rules tbh
My kids got in when I used a pass last year

And, as I mentioned, the rules definitely changed for a brief period of time. So that would just add to the confusion.

And some would say more ability....

They will use discretion for pre-schoolers etc.
Not really so much for older children.
Briefly in early May the T&Cs were updated to state that under 4 didn’t need a pass but they changed that again days later to the current version.

There are quite a few posts in the Messenger group chat from this year stating that they have been unable to bring children in without a pass of their own.

Either way it look like QF can’t quite make up their minds, or are doing accidental updates to the T and C and having to walk them back.

Looks like it was late April this year.

I dont think it's not making their minds up. I think they made their minds up in terms of whats black and white on paper. Whether you can get grey will depend on how nice the person guarding the door is.

except for 4 weeks in April-May?

Apologies if this has been asked previously, I did scan!

Miss BD, SIL and their 3 kids are flying JQ and I'm looking to gift passes to them.

I know the two children (12 and 9) need passes - but what of a two year old infant? The Complimentary Lounge pass page only states all children must have their own pass ... but common sense tells me that an infant falls under the standard "n/a" category.

Supplementary question: does the requirement change if the infant is flying on a child's ticket (ie their own booked seat)??

Can anyone point me to a definitive statement on the QF website - I don't want this to become a discussion point at the Lounge entrance!

Regards,

BD

An infant would be fine and wouldn't need a pass.

In general airline terms (i.e. you pay) a child is someone above 2

so you have a child not an infant....

BUT a small 2 year old child shouldn't be an issue unless you have a REALLY horrible person on the desk.

We have 2 comp lounge passes from our credit card.
We are flying in a couple weeks with our just turned 2 yo.
I note that the T&C say that children need their own pass, but does a 2 yo count? She's a toddler not a child 😅
I've read mixed reports on other websites saying its OK to take a child as a guest on a comp pass, but just wondering others real life experience?

Thanks 😊

I can't answer specifically on personal experience - and anecdotal evidence for young ones when parents are travelling on lounge passes seems mixed; so I shall yield to those better in the know.

However, I did want to say welcome to AFF!

thanks for the welcome 🤗
been flying for years, especially for work pre-baby, but just never joined one of these forums 🙃
will be my first flight post-baby. feels strange!

Your 2 year old daughter is categorised as a child by Qantas hence will need her own lounge pass. There are often AFF members who gift lounge passes to other members. Perhaps some nice person can help out ? Unless you already have make sure you enrol her as a QF frequent flyer ( free). She will need a number to receive a gifted lounge pass.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought that may have been the case.
Yes I have a FF for her already 😊
