Hi,

I have purchased tickets domestic tickets for my wife and 2 children PER-BNE.

As I will not be flying there will be no lounge access however I have 2 x Complimentary Lounge Invitations linked to my account.

I would like to use one each way for my wife and hoping kids will be allowed access under the child access policy as per QC.

I know from previous experience extras into lounge normally depends who is on the door.

Can someone please confirm?

Thanks

A few years ago, I was knocked back in Melbourne with kids (aged 6 and 8) from memory, had 2 lounge passes linked to my wife and I.

I think it depends on age of the child and what time of day you're flying.

We had our 10 month old come in no troubles on the complimentary passes and it was post morning rush.

I just double checked the rules here https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/the-qantas-club/complimentary-invitations.html

Complimentary Lounge Invitations terms and conditions apply.
  • Invitations must be linked at least 24 hours before departure of the Eligible Flight
  • Eligible Lounges will be shown when linking an invitation
  • Check lounge opening hours, location and bar service times prior to your arrival
  • Review our lounge dress code
  • Eligible Customers cannot bring guests, including children
  • Invitations cannot be used with Group Booking flights

If you don't mind saying - what are the age of the kids?

QF lounge staff are often ok with one toddler (because toddler can sit in lap), but 2 kids is almost no chance.

I think if you haven't already set up a Qantas account for your kids and link the lounge pass to the older kid and your wife. Then look on AFF or elsewhere for free passes. (Note: don't bother buying - apart from being against T&C)

I managed to bring BigJohn Jnr into the SYD (non-business) lounge without a separate lounge pass on a number of occasions.

The staff usually just wave him through.

However, I did get a telling off once for attempting to do so !

Mind you , this was pre-Covid. So the rules have probably changed as per Mort's post.

My experience in all this is it depends on how busy the lounge is.
In the past 5 years, ive been knocked back once in bringing kids in lounge. I have 2 passes, for my wife and I, and 2 kids.
Once knocked back, us parents have to make hard decision is which parent and child to go into lounge.....

Does anyone know how the passes work with lap infants? I.e you can only link one pass to the ticket holder, there isn't an option to link a pass to the infant (that I can see..). I understand most of the time an infant will be waived through, however it always pays to understand the policy :)

gee it would be a pretty poor effort to deny a lap infant on these grounds. I mean effectively makes the lounge invite useless for you.
Totally agree. When I was offering up a couple of P1 lounge access passes a couple of years ago the receiver of said passes was and still is an active member on this site as is her partner. So x2 adults and an infant and when checking with QF the answer was 3 passes were required.

Giving away QF Lounge passes (especially P1) has now become something I am holding on to, it was only the other day that someone asked about P1 F access lounge passes and they were willing to pay. I responded, I was willing to give them away however my poorly worded response resulted in the mods deleting my response.

Just checking: was this in the days of electronic passes?

How can an electronic pass be linked to a lap infant who has no seat and in the normal course has no QFF membership? (I guess its an open question to all as I'm not suggesting you specifically know the answer)

I could understand how you hand over a paper pass for three when effectively being a walk up.

Yes they were the digital passes, the P1 Lounge pass was only introduced around 2017/18.

You raise a good point and it is a good question. As I have status that allows entry our daughter has always been allowed access under the child policy. I do not know all the rules around the lounge passes as I have no need for them, never actually used one and give them away. It was QF who advised that the infant would need a pass and at the time it didn't cross my mind that the infant would not have a ticket.

I have found that having a pass into a quiet lounge when travelling with an infant is worth it's weight in gold.
In the middle of covid last year my wife and I found ourselves in a packed Hobart airport plagued with cancellations and delays.
Got into a surprisingly quiet lounge and baby fell asleep and slept until take-off. No problems at all taking the infant in.
Am yet to try Sydney airport as I always fly out first thing in the morning

You are a very generous giver of free items @Matt_01 as I know from experience so I’m sorry your post was denied.

What is the current experience with infants and QC access? I've given lounge passes to a friend of mine. He and his wife have a toddler. Would they need a pass for their toddler? I have another pass which I can give them, but if they don't, there's someone else I can give it to.
