Hi all,
I recently had a flight to Myanmar where the luggage was significantly delayed by the airline (Qantas).
The flight details:
SYD-MEL-HKG (Qantas on a single ticket)
HKG-RGN (Cathay, separate ticket)
According to the Qantas staff they could not forward the checked-in luggage all the way to Yangon, so we had to pick it up in HK and check it back in again.
Upon arriving in HK it turned out that the luggage never left Melbourne. The baggage staff said they could probably have it delivered to us the following day, but when we said we are continuing to RGN they were no longer as certain.
As it turned out, the 2 bags were eventually forwarded to Yangon, separately. The first bag was delivered within 48 hours, the second one within 72 hours.
In the meantime, we obviously had to purchase some t-shirts and underwear to use for a few days.
Sadly, this is not covered by the travel insurance as the excess fees are $250 (the total purchase was just under $300).
I was traveling with a friend, and what complicates the issue is that the staff in Sydney listed both bags under his name, none under my name.
My question is - am I entitled to any compensation from Qantas for the delay and for my out-of-pocket expenses?
I am a gold FF member, but my friend is only bronze.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
