Hi
I was reading the linked article about QF getting its mojo bak and saw these two comments by teh QFd CEO:

Lyall Strambi said:
"We're the only true premium airline operating out of the Gold Coast offering a meal and a checked bag to all passengers as part of their fare, no matter what time they're flying or which class they're travelling in" Strambi said.

In related news, Platinum-grade Qantas Frequent Flyers and business class travellers will enjoy access to an express security lane at Gold Coast Airport from December 1st.

Firstly why do pax flying to OOL get a meal at any time of the day and pax to MEL from SYD don't? Is it because the OOL flights are only during the designated meal times?

Secondly is this an ominous change that on WP (and J) get the express security lane? Could this be an impending change elsewhere?

I don't think he means meal in the sense that we'll get a hot meal or sandwich every flight, I think he means you get food every flight, I did the QF860/QF861 inaugural flight yesterday and both were refreshment flights, we got the same old coughpy pre-cooked rock solid frozen Scone jam/cream that we always seem to get on MEL-SYD refreshment flights.

agree with above.

for reference the meals on OOL are supposed to be (this is for WEEKDAY flights):

QF860 - Breakfast
QF862/864 - Refreshment

QF861 - Breakfast
QF863 - Lunch
QF865 - Refreshment

Note that on a weekend QF860/861 revert to Refreshment due to a later departure time.

'meal' is tenuous at best on QF any domestic service. 'mouthful' would be more fitting.

I wish I could have eaten a mouthful, but the frozen "Muffins" and "Scones" that are given out these days are terrible, either not properly thawed or very cold.
Muffins and scones are things that (to me) are only good when freshly cooked that day once they have been frozen they just taste terrible.
Actually most people I've seen lately are declining the refreshments and just asking for a drink instead.

I wonder if they count the amount of food that comes back to them, and use that to gadge popularity?

I fully expect that there has been and will continue to be detailed analysis of this - to the point that they actually I expect don't cater for everyone and there is probably a daily muffin return report...

i try and avoid Y where possible on QF domestic and upgrade - the last 'meal' I had was some kind of savoury cake with a chilli paste dip - offensive

it's a win win for them when people decline the cakes - they can load less and save money whilst still crowing over the 'meal servce'

QF865 - Refreshment

Not sure about weekday flights as you said, but QF865 was a dinner service last night (Sunday).

It was stir fried beef with hokkien noodles.

In biz or economy?

the schedule says refreshment , 1740 departures are usually refreshments, in Y at least.

I had that in Y on a flight ex SYD on Saturday night. It looked and smelled awful and had about 3 pieces of beef in it. I only ate the bread roll (no margarine or butter provided) and the mini Cherry Ripe.

Didn't I give you enough food! ;)

Good to hear they'll be getting a priority line, as security at OOL is a joke sometimes. I wonder if Virgin will share it, and why Virgin hasn't got one, or do they?

Oh, there was plenty of food... I thought I'd have something anyway, as I wasn't going to get home until around 9pm.

Turns out that I enjoyed the pretzels and the multiple mini bottles of wine more than the meal :)

The priority lane is the airport's initiative - will be for Business Class passengers on all airlines (Including Scoot!) & Virgin/Qantas FF Platinum (and above).

Of course, Virgin goes that little bit further ;):

In Y. But being so close to the cut off and Daylight Savings, maybe they went with a meal?
(It was very nice too)

Here I was naively thinking that my flight on Friday, QF865 17:40-20:00 would actually have a meal. But I was wrong. I'm sure my kids will be super excited to be given three dry crackers and a tub of grainy paste.

I remember when QF used to serve actual meals ...
