Coles Group and Myer Gift Card Not Activated

Thought I would post it here as a new thread and a warning to others. An old 2017 thread was not open for further replies.

Was at Liquorland last night to get a $100 gift card. Attendant swiped the card, but something didn't feel right as the receipt didn't mention anything about activation. Went back to the car and checked the balance. The status was showing as 'cancelled' with a nil balance.

Headed straight back into the store. Showed the person the screen. He confirmed the balance as nil on his system and then I need to go to customer service to resolve as he said he needed manager approval for refund. I said the receipt didn't even show the gift card number I bought so that's not proof that I bought it and that I would be getting the run around. I also said he would need to fix it on the spot.

Then whatever he did on the system, he put through another sale. I even had to show him the right side to swipe the gift card on the terminal!

Moral of the story: if you're not buying the gift cards as gifts, check the balance immediately if you feel the activated hasn't gone through correctly.

I also can't believe the IT system would allow a sale to go through without proper activation.
