These are well detailed already.

Problems include, inter alia:

1) You never know if the card will be accepted.
2) Wont work at many terminals, including Square.
3) Surcharges are common and mathematically problematic and cut into your discount.
4) Getting rid of residual amounts/split payments are problematic and often impossible.

5. Caution peeling off the cvv2 /pin label can very easily damage the 3digit cvv2 pin, as these cards are paper.

Bought two of these to try out, first one peeling off the pin label removed the PIN code , A replacement E-gift card ordered by online chat. Second card took extra care removing label and still the PIN code figures were damaged. Managed to guess the right characters and added to Apple wallet.

Is there a secret to removing these labels?
How many of these cards don’t get used because the pin can’t be read ?

If it helps anybody with remaining balances, two fast food chains where I have had no problems with doing split payments at multiple locations have been Hungry Jacks and Grill'd.

I tend to spend the balance down to around ~$10 then wait for an opportunity to do a split payment with the remainder, as otherwise people think you're insane if you're asking to do split payments for say $1.20.

I spend the card down to like under $5, then use the last $2.5 at Chatime and ask to do split payment.

I am sure even Soul Origin or the like would be do-able.

Is there a secret to removing these labels?

I learnt my lesson too. I just use a 5c coin and scratch GENTLY.

I haven't had much trouble with either the Restaurant Choice or TCN Restaurant cards not being accepted.

For those who go to Subway a lot, you can use remaining balances to top up your Subcard online/via the app. A minimum of $10 is required though.
