I just need the rest of Australia to realise this so I don't have to struggle to find stock. I bet my local stores will still sell out within a couple of hours of opening on Wednesday.
I've found precisely zero (of the purple $100) in CBR this time round. Plenty of yellow $250 available. Not such duds after all.

No $100 in the first 3 stores I went to but managed to find plenty at the Brisbane central store when I was there Friday morning. Got 15 across 3 accounts and used them to pay school fees about 20 minutes later.

These would sell out even if they merely halved the activation fee because there are plenty of ways to use them for MS and plenty of people would pick up pennies in front of a steamroller. Doesn't mean they aren't a dud deal.

However, the future is looking brighter if they can once again be used at the ATO. I might try out myself today.

They are selling out, even without reducing the fee, in Canberra at least. 0.5c ppt is obviously not a dud to most, and worth the risks involved.

At Sandy Bay in Hobart I asked for the purple $100 cards at the cigarette counter as none on display. The girls there called another (young) assistant to help. She looked behind the card display where there is a whole new lot of cards hanging up. None to seen.

However, she found 5 cards tucked on a shelf (presumably stashed by a staff member) and gave me those. For which I was appreciative.

Pretty stinky behaviour by Coles/the staff member who stashed them.

Or a customer previously rang to ask them to put away 5 for later in the day or week? I've had 5 put away for me previously.

You're lucky. Very much a store by store proposition. I've been told in two ACT stores that they "can't do that".
