Coles gift card offers

These types of offers are becoming a bit too regular. Surely they can't be seen as a legitimate way of improving your profit margins.

Why would I make a purchase at these businesses if I knew I could wait to receive these types of offerings - especially thinking of the frequent Myer or David Jones gift card deals.

With the "Kids" gift card anyway, I believe it is not issued by any of the businesses listed, but by a third party. The third party may be paying a licensing agreement with those brands, and then effectively selling you an eftpos card, assuming they will make money on either attrition/expiry, commission, using your money on the stock market between purchase and redemption, or more. The third party is the one that deals with woolworths etc to set commissions.

I would love some inside information here - how many gift cards (and I mean eftpos-type cards as certificates will almost always be in house), especially for smaller retailers, are actually issued by the retailers vs issued by third parties with the retailers just making a small commission?

From a core business perspective it would make sense to outsource financial services.

Yes, on the back of the card. SOPOOR said they attempted to use one for purchase at a non-listed store and it didn't work, though.

Yes. I tried to use it at Coles and it didn't work.
If it doesn't work at Coles. It's most likely it won't work anywhere else

am considering buying a few adrenaline gift cards at 40% off, I assume coles gift cards wont be allowed to be used as it seems coles systems dont allow buying gift with gift cards?

was looking to use 5% off but dont want to be stuck with heaps of coles cards

The self-checkouts don't stop you from paying for gift cards with Coles Group gift cards.

It does prompts for a staff member to write the expiry date on the gift cards you are buying, but they'll typically walk away after they've done that.

Coles have updated their checkouts in most of stores in Perth and the updated checkouts do not allow payment with Coles gift cards if you have scanned gift cards

About a month ago I tried to bug a kids gift card with a Coles gift card.
It didn't allow me.
I also tried to buy the Coles master card.

The system simply didn't allow me

I have purchased gift cards at Coles within the last 2 weeks using Coles discounted gift cards. No problems encountered.

At one large Coles in Melb staff refused to allow use of the Coles GC to pay for a GC.

At a smaller Coles they allowed a similar purchase a couple of weeks prior.

So it seems that some stores are policing it differently.

Hey Dr Ralph - was this with the new or old Coles checkout software? You'll know if it was the new software because it would have horrible to use.

New.

My advice is not to purchase a gift card by itself. Make it part of other items you are buying and never show the sales staff your method of payment. If they ask tell them bluntly that its none of their concern, you are using a self check-out, not a staffed check-out.

The new checkouts I have tried in Perth actually say gift card payment not allowed if you scan any gift card even if other items are part of the shopping

Maybe that's what happened in my case.

However. Mine wasnt a human refusal. Ithe terminal simply didn't accept my gift card

I bought a Hoyts gift card last week and paid with a Coles egiftcard. Other than the machine calling the attendant over to write the expiry date, I had no problems.
