I booked some return flights from LCA to SYD for family on the Etihad website with the outbound leg departing in a few days time.

The LCA to AUH leg is with Cobalt Air and AUH to SYD is with Etihad and both sectors are on the same EY E-ticket.

I read that Cobalt went bust a few days ago and noticed the e-tickets have not been changed and nobody from Etihad has bothered to advise me of the Cobalt grounding or any other flight options.

I’ve now called EY twice and first they promised to call back (and didn’t) and second call (diverted to Belgrade) told me there are no options other than cancellation.

Am I right to stand my ground with this? Does Etihad have an obligation to get the pax to Sydney since it’s their e-ticket? Unfortunately in this instance the travel insurance I purchased doesn’t cover insolvency.

Back when EY flew to LCA in times of irrops they’d send pax via Athens so I’m struggling to understand why they’re being so petty in this instance.

Thanks!

I don't know the answer to this, sorry, but please let us know how you resolve it. Either way, the Cobalt flight clearly isn't going to happen.

Have you asked EY if they can rebook you on an EY flight out of ATH? You could then make your own way from Larnaca to Athens to meet this (which hopefully shouldn't be too expensive).

Otherwise, is cancelling the EY booking and re-booking on a different airline a possibility?

After speaking with the Abu Dhabi call centre they’ve offered an alternate routing via Cairo on the outbound and Athens for the return at no additional charge for the same dates.

Timing isn’t fantastic but at this point they’re travelling so that’s all we can ask for.
