Too many sunk costs?

...seems they aren't awash with funds, but seriously looks like they are washed-up, a lot of bookings down the drain, and the deal for new second hand ships evaporated. Investors will be wave'ing goodbye to their investment.

[ @Hvr - I did my best, hope its up to your standard]

Cruise lines of all persuasions have continued to sell "phantom" cruises that they had no hope of fulfilling.
If and when the trickle of bankruptcies becomes an avalanche, many many thousands of gullible cruisers will lose a lot of money.

I think this is based in Adelaide and if so just last week it announced it would be trialling SA based cruises in summer.
They have been based in Fremantle over the summer season for many years now, and this year were also going to do round trips from Adelaide. They ran very popular and successful 2-3 night cruises as well as overnight New Year’s Eve cruises, along with the usual longer cruises. The cruises from UK to Australia and back were always pretty full. Always at half price, too! Another victim of the pandemic. They will be missed.

I have been an avid cruiser in the past, but not so much in the last couple of years. Flying and land touring instead. I have been amazed at the number of cruises being touted to and in Australia even while the Government was saying the return of cruise ships hasn’t yet been authorised. I also heard bookings by Australians are very strong. Very foolish! Most people don’t take out travel insurance until nearer their holiday either, which is a mistake. And even if they did, policies right now usually won’t cover cancellation due to coronavirus. I noticed “no cancellation“ or “no refund” next to Queen Mary’s Australian legs next February.

I am surprised that anyone would even go on a cruise ship, looking at their ways of treating passengers, and lying about the conditions on Ruby Princess.

But then again, the generally public is sometimes, I better keep my mouth shut.

I must have missed something. Where did they lie about conditions on Ruby Princess?

See ABC Four Corners - Outbreak Onboard 2020-05-26

Even as people were getting sick while the ship was trying to dock at Circular Quay, Carnival pretended that nothing was happening onboard, so they could get the ship docked and offload the passengers.

NSW Health too, yes, but Carnival was also caught covering up too.

The judicial enquiry will sort out who to what to whom.

From what had come out so far, so many people were responsible, either tried to cover up, or so negligent, that multiple control points of the process failed.

But then again, ScoMo said on a Friday that he was gonna go to the footy, until Peter Dutton got infected the next day, that's where he realised cough had hit the fan.

The degree of complacency in Australia was so high, but this is off topic.

Ill just wait for the enquiry and not mix it up with politics, especially Federal which is quite irrelevant.

But if you read the submissions and cross examination then it is the NSW Health dept that is the main criticism in the closing submission of the Barrister assisting the Inquiry.

Yes, I know they have been the most at fault from the news, but that does not mean that Carnival or Border Force had no responsibilities. They all done something wrong.
