Hoping for some advice please...
Have dropped to Silver Status, and trying to decide if its worth it for us to spend the money on doing a Status Run (from Perth) to achieve Gold again.
Our aim is to try get 3-4 Award Seats in Business Class to Europe for next year (pref France/Italy), which we achieved a few yrs back.
We have the points we require already so this is no problem.
I know these International Business Award redemptions are getting harder to come by , so wasn't sure if spending the money to achieve GOLD status would open up a lot more availability to us, or not ???
Many thanks in advance.

Tricky one. When did your membership year start and when are you looking to book by (so how many SC are you chasing in what time frame)?

I think you may find better luck using a service like AFA.

Thank you for your reply.
Membership year March
Looking to book as soon as they are available (travel APRIL- SEPT 2020)
As I’ve also just lost my accum. Status credits without realising, I now need the full 700
to achieve Gold.
Therefore, was contemplating if a multi sector Status run when a Double stat credit offer comes thru, gets me to gold , is worth it for more availability???

IMHO no, it's not worth it for the superior access to award availability. Qantas does not currently release Business or First availability, as a rule, on any of its flights to London - even to Gold members. And as the benefit of greater award availability only applies to Qantas-operated flights, your status won't impact your ability to redeem points on partner airlines.

Ok- so if I understand what you are saying correctly- regardless of membership level Silver/gold etc- that doesn’t change what availability shows up for partner airlines - ie codeshare Emirates/Cathay/Qatar etc?
Only on Qantas metal??

Don't bother looking at QF. Even with status availability is too poor.

Look at EK, QR. But 3-4 J seats on the one flight could be a big ask. How flexible are you? Can you split the party over a couple of days if need be?

Also, be prepared to look ex ADL or BNE and all or some of the party position there if need be. It would be better than spending the money chasing status for no result.

Exactly. And Qantas doesn't release award seats in J/F to LHR anyway.

Thank you. Will look ex other cities as suggested too.
Not that flexible unfort - Splitting party not option. 2Ad 2kids so need to travel together.

Also If I managed to say get 2 , what are the chances of being able to get another 1 or 2 seats down the track?? Do more get released??

4 seats in J will be a tough ask on any Qantas partner airline. Emirates may be the best bet, although the carrier charges are very high.

I realise this probably doesn't help you much at this point, but you would have a much better chance of finding 4x business award seats from Australia to Europe on Singapore Airlines, using KrisFlyer miles.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

QR usually release 4 J a day SYD-DOH Mon-Wed departures. Q suites and A380. Need to snap these up quickly. You might need a +24hr Doha stopover, but should then easily get 4J to CDG, or most Euro destinations other than maybe LHR.

No reason why you couldn't split 1 Adult and 1 Child each to stand the best chance of finding availability.

That also strikes me as an option. It wouldn't be the first time we've seen folks split their family or group to snare premium redemptions when chasing several seats. You need to do what you need to do...!

Thanks again.
How many days in advance are seats released for Silver status - for the partner airlines-
EMIRATES ?
QATAR ?
and are the release dates affected by status?

splitting to 1ad 1ch not an option unfortunately due to certain circumstances. So obviously would love 4 business Award seats, but prepared to pay for 1 if managed to only get 3.

Thanks for all the advise thus far. Very much appreciated.
