Citibank Plus - No Fee No Overseas Transaction Fee Account

Hi,
Just after clarification....
I received an email today saying my application for a Citibank Plus account has been successful and that a Citibank Visa debit card is in the mail to me. Is the idea that you load up the Visa card with AUD$$$ and just withdraw as needed in the local currency? The paperwork seems to say a 2.5% fee for overseas transactions. Is this accurate or am I misreading the information?

By load up the Visa, I assume you mean transfer money into the account. It's a savings account, so it's not like the 28 degrees which is a credit card (not debit) which people load up into a positive balance and then withdraw.

Although if you don't load the CB+ account into a positive balance... you won't be able to withdraw much ;)

Thanks, moa999, the joint and Flashback. Sorry, poor use of language. Yes, by load up imdidmmean make deposit so it is in a positive cash position.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already on this thread but does anyone know the maximum you can withdraw at an ATM each day on this account when overseas?

I think that the standard limit is AUD1000 equivalent in foreign currency.

So you'd be looking at around he USD700 mark currently. Not much in a place like Vegas. Is it able to be increased easily at all? And to what sort of level?

Not sure if the amount has changed but you can phone up and get the daily limit increased. Mine is set at AUD $3,000 which was the maximum at the time

This has been my experience. Also doing transfers to overseas bank accounts can be even higher. i.e. Into your own foreign bank account.

Just a heads up for use of the card in Argentina. The Argentinian president recently in December has eased restrictions on foreign currency in Argentina, with an aim also to get rid of the black market exchange rate of 'Blue Dollars' which could give you 50% more for your money if you brought US/Euro/Real cash. With this gone it is now fine to use credit cards and ATM's to get a rate just as good. The one thing to watch out for is try and avoid using Argentinian banks on the 'Link Network' they will try and slug you nearly 90 Pesos (AUD$10) for the transaction. Need to use 'Banelco Network' and foreign banks to avoid the fee, there are actually plenty of Citibank ATMs and branches around BA.

Otherwise had no fees in Hong Kong, France, Germany, Italy and Brazil on our trip.

Is there somewhere in Aus that I can pay in actual folding cash onto the card?

It is just a normal bank account. Head in to a Citibank branch and they will happily deposit in to your account. Alternatively deposit cash in to another bank (any) and just do a standard transfer.

Thanks for that. I have had it for a while but have never used it. If I remember correctly, the instruction is to press credit when paying for something, and when putting money onto it, press savings is that right? anything else I showed have known?

Australia Post outlets.

We have referred lots of friends to this card because it works and is way less expensive to use.
