Citibank Dining - Free Wine Offer

Had a shocker with Chef's Gallery (Sydney). Their menu's all the Citibank World Privileges logo all printed, so thought this would be easy. I showed them my Citi Select card and they insisted the card needed to be blue... wtf.

I then had to show them the website with the offer, and also my credit card to show it was a legit one, to which they reluctantly asked the red or the white

JV ... If your an iPhone user, then download the Citibank privilege app... It locates the restaurant, shows you the wine deal etc..,, if your not an iPhone user.... Then.... Sorry... Print it out... :(
Would you mind directing me to this app? I've got the normal Citibank one... Is this one different?

Scratch that - just found what you were talking about.... Seems here in little old HBA we are quite sheltered with that sort of thing!

had a good exp in koko,
asked the waiter if I get a bottle of wine he seemed clueless so was referred to the restaurant manager who confirmed all is good as long as we pay with a citi. For a table of 10 we had 5 who had qualifying citi cards and he allowed us to split our bills and had 5 free bottles :D

"As a valued Citibank Silver, Gold, Platinum or Select Cardholder, you receive a fantastic bottle of premium, award winning wine with our compliments to enjoy with your meal every time you dine out with Citibank.
The 15 hand-picked wines have been selected from nine of Australia's leading wineries and include 4 and 5 Star wines as rated by Winestate magazine or Epicure (The Age), with 90 plus points as rated by James Halliday........"

Seems that most of their cards qualify for the offer

Used this offer for the first time last night with my Citibank Visa Platinum credit card. Was at Chillipadi (I think that is it!) in Melbourne Central. Noticed the sticker on the door as I walked in, asked the waitress and she brought out quite a nice 2008 Shiraz listed at $40 on the wine list. Only caveat was bill had to be paid with the Citibank card. Might actually look up what restaurants offer this deal and seek them out!

There's been a few times where i whipped out the citi select card and they say it's not valid. sigh.

They're just clueless. Had to explain that yes it's a credit card, yes it's by citibank, and yes it's valid for the promotion.

This is probably the most negative part of this deal; hardly anyone in the restaurants knows about it. I've had to explain it to staff at at least 4 restauants so far.

Last night, went to Din Tai Fung in Sydney and while the guy on reception knew about it (well, sort of), and my waiter knew (as soon as I mentioned it he went and got the bottle of wine), when I got to the cashier she charged me for the wine $40! I said the wine is free and she called the supervisor who sorted it out without a problem. Not whinging; but make sure you check your bill before you pay.

I did post this on Citibank Australia's FB page and they said they're onto it...

Went to Din Tai Fung again this week and, as previously, when the bill came there was a $40 charge for the wine. I pointed out that it is free and the cost was removed without argument.

Thats twice in a row that they have tried this; maybe coincidence, maybe not. Make sure you check the bill before paying.

Was at Banjo Patterson last night and busted out the card and got my free bottle easily enough. Then also tried to use the Entertainment book but the Maitre'd politely came over and informed me that I couldn't combine the two. Oh well.

Wine was nice, Clairault 2007 Margaret River Cabernet Merlot. $39.9 on the wine list.

Not that I've been able to try the free wine offer as we live in a place where people haven't heard of it obviously! (in Tasmania) but I did get a free bottle of red in the post a few days ago - were going to open it tonit with some friends and see how much story telling lubricant is in it!

Sent from my iPad using AustFreqFly app

The Citibank Plus monthly fee-free transaction account now also provides access to this benefit - so if you are hanging on to the credit card for the free bottle of plonk, you can now ditch the credit card for a free debit card account.

8 of us going out for dinner at Golden Century, Sussex St, Sydney this Friday. We have at least 2 Citibank cards in our party....I wonder if we could get 2 bottles of free wine, a red and white?

Had a good experience with claiming the free bottle of wine with my Citibank Platinum card (which I am going to cancel when the reduction of QFF points kicks in) at an Italian place on the corner of Weston and Lygon St in East Brunswick in Melbourne, can't remember the name of the restaurant but the food and free wine was really good ($40 on the menu for the cab merlot red)

When paying the bill hand over your CB card for payment and also hand over your QF card (to earn 3 per $1).

Do I have to pay with CB? I was going to hand over my Amex card and QF card...;)

Probably depends on your luck, but in my experience the staff there get pretty narky when you ask for the free bottle in the first place and will only allow you to pay with the CB card.
