Has anyone managed to get this card at a reduced fee?

I've managed to reach the cap on both my Citi Visa & M/C, with 7 months to go before I can earn points again!

I am currently using my Westpac Krisflyer for all non Amex spend but would prefer non-expiring points if possible.

if you are a citigold member you might be able to get a reduced annual fee. call up and ask . be sure to let us know?

Next month if MrsCove has this card working correctly I plan to get one as well. The level of screw ups has been high.....no statements, internet site not working properly for us,8 days for a cheque to clear,45000 points that did not make it to QF.....
My level of tenacity is high but I will wait for Citi to prove they can fix what they have promised to fix. That fix date is around 9th November.

Well Mrscove has a chunk of QF points in her account for last month so the struggles were worth it!
Citi promises were well based so all is forgiven.
This month I need to try NAB to reload the card faster so thanks for that tip on how to get funds into Citi quicker as 8 days thru Australia Post on a chunky amount is like giving a bank a free lunch for their office.

Had a platinum, and I hit the cap pretty quickly on it.

Decided to pay a bit extra for this card, at least there's no cap right?!

Anyway, not suprised that since getting the card its been an absolute train wreck. Citibank is such a badly run company at the coal face its almost laughable.

Problem 1: Get the nice little black box the card comes in. The card was stuck to the cardboard with this awful sticky stuff. Not like anything else I've seen banks use (that nice soft putty). Anyway, rip it off, and half of the stickyness is still stuck on the signature strip. It just will not come off. Had to sign over it, and now the card sticks when I try to get it in and out of my wallet. Absolutely shoddy stuff.

Problem 2: In the nice little black box, there's a letter saying that my pre-approved limit has been bumped to 40K. OK, no probs. I'll take it. Go ahead and activate the card, then today, thought I'd call again to confirm the limit. They don't have that limit offer on their system and need to look into it. Ask me to fax them the document over? Deary me. I said forget it, I don't have the time. They'll call me back in 1hr sir, they PROMISE. Well, no suprises, no call back. I call back 4 hrs later and suprisingly get the same CS rep. He then lies and tell's me he tied to call me, and that the matter needs to be referred up the line. I mean, what absolute BS. I don't have time to chase them to honour an offer they made. Why is everything so hard for this company?

Problem 3: Unlike other fin institutions when you upgrade or get a new card, it doesnt just show up magically on your online account. That would be too easy wouldnt it! They make you go through and create a whole new online account, adding the card, your contact details, new login, password etc. Now, ok, I decide to bite the bullet and do it, but it gets to a page where you need the PIN. What a suprise, Citi never sent me a PIN. I got the card 4 days ago, it usally comes 1-2 days after. Again, another call so they can send out the PIN. In essense, I'm using the card, its active, but I have no way of checking purchases online.

Problem 4: The age old Citi problem of people with Mac OSX not being able to download electronic statements. Some CS rep a month ago had the nerve to blame apple and adobe fighting??? I'm sorry, but every other bank and fin. institution I have accounts with have managed to work it out. This is just shoddy.

Problem 5: I enquired about the meet and assist service they offer with the card. These people I was speaking too kept thinking I was talking about Priorty Pass. I mean, what the hell?? This is a card thats supposed to be on-par with other platinum re: the services they offer. Not only that, when one CS rep thought they DID know what I was talking about, they transferred me to Mr&MrsSmith call centre that it had absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM.

Problem 6: This is generally related to the above, but I wrote quite a long complaint via their online compalint form, pushed submit, and it didnt even submit- and an error occured. I tried again thinking I made a mistake, this time copying my text just in-case, and same thing. I tried 6 different methods, on 3 different browsers, and still no luck. This company doesn't even offer a service to COMPLAIN ONLINE. Unbeleivable.

Anyway, I do know better. The ony reason I got this card is because its pretty much one of the only cards that I get 1:1 QF points per dollar spent with NO CAP. I'll use and abuse it, and churn as much as I can through it while paying it down before interest hits.

My view of Citi over the last few years is that of a really poorly run and incompetent company, and I'd never EVER look at giving them any more of by financial business above the CC I have with them.

This is just scratching the surface of what a shoddy company Citi is.

Bit of a rant I know.

Moral of the story- If you don't hit your cap currently on the Gold or Plat, do not give these guys anymore of your money. Go somewhere else.

In the relentless pursuit of QF points this card fixes the Visa point per dollar side of things and Amex Ultimate fixes the point and a half side of things.
Yes WOLF13 your post made me think that I had been a little lucky but it was exasperating and annoying for me as well.
Success took just under 90 days but fortunately it is a really big success story.

I received a reminder yesterday telling me I had one more chance to take up their offer to move to this card from the fee-free platinum. I was tempted but the main issue for me was the supplementaries, I currently have 4 and citi can't tell me whether its 1 or 4 I'm allowed to have on Signature. Just on this, for those who have it how many supps do you have, and do you pay for them if you are allowed more than the first one which is free?

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm sure it is buried in here somewhere but I couldn't find it. What is the conversiopn to SPG with this Citi Select Card?

The reduction in spend is real, but you may find that the tickets (I haven't read for all airlines, and haven't tested it out myself yet) are the type that have no SC or miles accumulation.

I'll be making a booking for October anyway so will see how that goes.

Did you receive your SC's for this?

It's 3 Citi points for 1 SPG.

Well that is highly concerning because I just got off the phone form the Citi Rewards line and they said 2 Citi points :1 SPG aftetr putting me on hold for 10 minutes!

They really have no idea what they are doing.

Nonetheless for my spend habit - large volume of business spend it is probably the best by far for earning AA points of any Australian card.

I must say that I have had the Citi Select card now since August and have nothing but praise for it.
The Citi team are very good ringing me if they think there is a purchase that may be suspect.
Booked our familys round RTW ticket in Fclass no problemo.
Have taken advantage of Mr&Mrs. Smith facility great discounts offered on BA
The Priority Pass is also an added bonus.
We have also attended a couple of the bespoke events which were great and good value for money.
With the bonus points have managed to get $1000.00 voucher from Dan Murphy which was duly spent at Christmas time stocking up on champers.:)

For all the detractors comments that I have read here I can only suggest that it may be due to their branch or Citigold relationship Manager.
As I said there has never been a problem with us and we will continue to use the card for all our travel arrangements.

I think the main criticism of this card is the $700 annual fee, as most people would probably put up with poor service if the card was better priced.

I'm not sure if I'd make use of the Mr & Mrs Smith membership and I expect most people applying for this will already have an Amex Plat with a priority club card?

I've just applied for this card myself as a replacement for the (soon to be reduced to 0.5 per $) Westpac Krisflyer Visa for all non Amex spend.
I have around $400k visa/m/c annual spend and the fact that it is not capped will probably justify the cost to me for now, as I prefer to transfer to Krisflyer where I can!

I'm not sure why you wouldn't just use an Amex, at 1.5:1 , for your travel arrangements?

Getting set on Visa after 15th really falls into Citi for Kris points so we need to grin and bear it.
Goodbye Westpac Platinum Kris Flyer Visa in just a few days (as long as my new card comes by next week from Citi) and hello Citi Kris point a dollar.
Seven days now to be set!

I haven't used the Mr and Mrs smith membership yet, but something I'd like to check out in the future. There's a lot of thought put into the hotels they review.

Also a correction: it's Priority Pass (access to Lounges at airports), not Priority Club.

Just letting you know:
This morning I changed 1.5 citi points for 1 KF that 1.33 KF for $1 spent
Last month was 2 citi points for 1 KF.
Do you know if it is a promotion ?
I don't know why but I changed all my points in case they change their mind.

Did you do it online? i'm checking now.

... some time later...

Interesting!! They used to discriminate against Citi Select, but now it seems SQ and Velocity are on the same ratio as other cards!

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
Citibank cardholders can transfer points to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program at:
1.5 Citibank reward points = 1 KrisFlyer Mile, and redemptions must be in multiples of 15,000 Citibank reward points.

Velocity Rewards
Citibank Cardholders can transfer points to Velocity Rewards at:
1.5 Citibank reward points = 1 Velocity Point, and redemptions must be in multiples of 15,000 Citibank reward points.

Asia Miles:
Citibank Select Cardholders can transfer points to Asia Miles at:
2 Citibank reward points = 1 Mile, and redemptions must be in multiples of 5,000 Citibank reward points.

Yes I changed the points online.
If it stay like this we can't complain too much about the $700 fee.
Do you think we could complain about the points we changed 2 citi for 1 KF ?
Do you think it will stay 1.5 citi for 1 KF ?
